Abu Faisal alias Doctor alias Farhan - chief of Indian Mujahedeen (IM) Madhya Pradesh module, had hatched a plot to blow up Pakistan embassy in New Delhi and eliminate neigbouring nation's diplomats in India. And for this, he had developed contacts with Al-Qaeda linked Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an alliance of militant groups in Pakistan, which was formed in 2007 to unite groups fighting against Pak military in federally-administered tribal areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The input has been shared with Union ministry of home affairs (MHA), sources said.
Mumbai-based Faisal, 35,, who was rearrested from Barwani district on Monday, after his escape from a prison in Khandwa on October2, by MP's counter terrorist group (CTG) and Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) told interrogators that he was in touch with TTP to execute his plot of targeting Pakistan consulate besides elimination of Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Known as Pakistani Taliban among global intelligence agencies, Maulana Fazlullah-led TTP had vowed to avenge the killing of bin Laden by US Special Forces.
Faisal was following TTP's ideology and he was aware that targeting the Pakistan embassy would help him gain their confidence and secure its help to execute other plots like elimination of political leaders in India.
He allegedly wanted to use a similar strategy to target Pakistan consulate in India, which TTP had employed (car bomb) to target US consulate in Peshawar in 2012, sources said. And TTP is forming groups in India, it's learnt.
"Faisal had sinister plans, which could not be disclosed. But it's for sure that he was in touch with TTP. We are trying to get more details," said Sanjeev Shami, chief of CTG and ATS, who led the operation. Officers are trying to find out mediators between Faisal and TTP.
Though CTF chief refrained from naming any of those on Faisal's hit list, insiders in the agency claimed that Faisal wanted to target the Union home minister to avenge hanging of two terror convicts Ajmal Amir Kasab and Afzal Guru. "Faisal feels that Shinde is solely responsible for the hanging of the two," said an ATS officer, who interrogated him.
Two others arrested with Faisal were identified as Khalid Ahmed of Solapur in Maharashtra and Irfan Nagori of Mahidpur in Ujjain district in MP.
Faisal would have caused major destruction if he was not arrested. Three bombs, 100 detonators and 70 gelatine rods were confiscated from the house of Faisal's close aide at Solapur in Maharashtra on Tuesday night. "The seized explosives were enough to execute any major strike," Shami told media.
In all, 5 persons have been arrested by the MPATS and CTG in the past 48 hours. Abu Faisal, who was the key planner in the Khandwa jailbreak, was arrested with Irfan Nagori of Ujjain district and Khaleed Ahmed of Solapur late on Monday night.
Two others, identified as Umer and Siddhique, were arrested from Solapur with the help of Maharashtra counterparts on Tuesday.
