F-35B Pops Up In Indian Aircraft Carrier Official Impression

You are right and I didnt mention much abt Mig-29, but somehow i feel AESA would have been there instead of Zhuk MESA..

Yeah, I also said many times that this Zhuk radar is the only low end system of this great fighter. I think IN will change this for later 29 Mig-29K ordered recently. If no PAK FA type radar (smaller version), than they should go for EL/M-2052 or atleast Zhuk AE.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
If IN orders F-35 then IN will get 5th gen. fighter earlier than IAF.
That will be good for IN.
yes sir i agree with you. Indian navy requires 5th gen fighters urgently.if not f 35 then we should build single engine FGFA for navy with emphasis on ground strike and anti ship capacity.

The problem is, that there is no ready AESA available for the Mig 29s yet, be it Zhuk AE, or the 2052. AFAIK PLAN will not field J10, but J15 (Su 33 copy) and fitted with capable radars and engines, it could be more than a match for the Mig 29Ks. The good point is, that PLAN is still years away of inducting a carrier into operational service, which leaves enough time for IAC2 and more capable fighters to arrive.
Gorshkov and IAC1 with Mig 29s and limited capable N-LCAs will serve mainly in the seas around India, to secure the sea lanes and coast lines, so PN and PAF should be their main opponent.

That is correct. As far as PN or PAF is considered its fine. But the point here is even IAC2, with an additional number of Mig-29, coz we know 45(?) are on order, so mostly IAC2 will have Migs too. PAKFA or F-35 or anyother fighter will go into IAC3. and IAC3 will come in 2020 so it makes perfect sense for IN to opt these fighters which come around same time.

Though we dont see a conflict in the mean while with PLAN, But from a requirement point of view to have an edge, we dont have a good radar here in Mig.

Hi Dash, the Migs are meant for Gorshkov and IAC1, not 2. The RFI that was send out to the MMRCA vendors and to LM for F35, was for carrier fighters for IAC2, which is planed to have a CATOBAR layout and not STOBAR like Gorshkov and IAC1.
The IAC 2 is planed to be inducted around 2018, but in that time, neither a naval FGFA will be ready, nor would AMCA be even close to be ready. That is why IN will choose one of the proven MMRCA carrier fighters, as a cost-effective stopgap till 5. gen fighters (FGFA, or AMCA) will be ready.
Actually we see the same now with Gorshkov an IAC1 too, because the later was planed to have naval LCAs only/mainly, but with all the delays in LCA development, another proven and cost-effective fighter must be procured before, additional Mig 29Ks!
IN don't need a 5. gen fighter before 2020 anyway, because the only enemy are PAK forces, so using the advantage of commonality and reduced costs to IAF fighters would be a logical and smart move.

Opps...How did I miss that?.that is correct!!...I guess I confused myself. and as rightly said, IN will go for a proven MRCA fighter, like Rafale or SH, which are carrier capable.

@Naval PAK-FA: After Failure of Su33 (heavy Fighter on Deck) I don think Russia will ever think to develop Naval FGFA/Pak-FA...

@Naval AMCA: AMCA is not yet in picture, It will take 3 more years to develop Naval AMCA form AMCA.

@Naval Tejas: By the time IAC will come, Naval LCA will match LCA MKII. or MK II+ (Now a days + is extensively used by DRDO)..

@F35: Amerika will not be successful to fill the demand from there beloved friends (Including Pakistan) How it gonna deliver it to India on time???

@MiG29K: its very potent design... the MiG29 is tested and verified machine.... Its not bad If IAC will go with MiG29....

@trollers: Enjoy Def . pk
aside from the Mig29K all of them are Dream birds, none in service yet....

but how about the SuperHornet? its a much superior war plane than the Mig29K..

Apart from AESA whats so special in SH............ compare with Mig 29K

SH can be a good option for Indian navy.
The point is that if we are going to get a 5th gen. naval fighter why we would buy SH?
We already have Mig-29k.Also naval-Tejas is in the pipeline.
Buying too many different kinds of fighters increase maintainance cost and logistics' problem.

Weapon pack, payload, strike capabilities, bossibly a lower RCS

Because we are talking about a CATOBAR carriers, Mig 29Ks would need a new front gear to be used with this system, same for N-LCAs and by the fact that this carrier should be able to take on Chinese carriers, neither the Mig, nor the N-LCA will be capable enough. That's why IN will most likely go for Rafale, or the SH as a stop gap till 5. gen fighters will be available.
