F-16s for Pak could cloud IAF's 126-plane deal: India to US

Please could somebody tell me why do we want 126 mainline fighter planes from an unreliable, untrustworthy and backstabbing nation like US. Is pakistan so important that it has to come into such a strategic weapons/decision.

its more like some one is dragging Pakistan in all this having intentions to block the sales of only 18 jets to Pakistan & apparently yes Pakistan is important for some one who has a headache only because of 18 fighter jets

Guys no point talking about this - This has no bearing on Indian Defense as such.

18 more F-16s cannot match 100 odd SU 30 MKIs close to 150 in the next some years and then 126+ MMRCAs all top notch best in the world.

It is a good exercise to get a feel of the OBAMA administration towards India - Its plain Diplomacy - even if they are buying them or getting them in AID we should not be concerned as much - It does augment their capabilities but then in the current scenario with a huge fleet of ours the, 60-80 F-16s cannot do a lot of harm to us so really we do not need to react at all.

Our government warned the US, now if US goes ahead with it, they will only have themselves to blame if they do not win the 126-200 odd aircrafts deal and quite frankly we will not be losing out on anything since we have better aircrafts than the F-18s and the F-16s in the competition.

I would anyways put the F-18s out since we just got a fleet of Mig 29Ks for our carrier and more on Order, so an F-18 looks like out of the Question - On the other hand now that the F-16 are being considered as "Target Practice Drones" by the US apart from the fact that Pakistan has already mastered that bird, it will definitely not go down well with our AF and the public if we buy them.

So from where I look at this both th F-16s and F-18s are out of the contenders already. But the Indian government is smart - it may have found a way to blame the US for them losing despite the fact that we were never gonna buy them anyways! LOL!

Hi peregrine I certainly would be very happy if pakistan gets its F16s and we can show americans the exit door but I guess some people have an instant problem whenever pakistan is mentioned.It is like cutting ur own nose to spite somebody else.

So what.They are also either on soft loans or some form of grants.Even JF-17 is on seller's credit.It's Western Avionics are on Loans.f-16s,F22P they are all cheap stuff.EF on other hand is 100+million Plus close to 120 mils.

F-16 would be like 35-40 and F-22P are like 150 mils.So Compare yourself.

India is getting all the stuff on hard cash not on loans or grants.If Pakistan so fond of good western tech then start developing economy.Because all the fancy stuff comes with money.

u excluded Pakistans most expensive procurement of Eyrie if i am not wrong it was around 1 billion dollars, anyways the point was that as in Eiryes case india had acquired phalcon so it was sort of mandatory for Pakistan to acquire eyrie, so if USA refuses to give pakisan f-16's then Pakistan will have to explore other alternatives which very much includes European markets, lets not bother about money at the moment as obviously first negotiations prevail before any deal

European market is a no go for Pakistan.The best Pakistan can expect is Chinese Stuff.Anything else is out of Budget.

well i think saying European market is a no go for Pakistan is utterly wrong as Pakistan has acquired SPADA, EYRIE, UAV, deal for jf thunder avionics which will be finalized soon is worth above 1.5 billion so chances very much are there who knows Pakistan's economy will improve in next coming years, not to mention Pakistan want European subs as well

Dont Worry buddy, they cannot make lives miserable to us. They have a lot at stake in our country to fool around with us.

They are definitely not in a position like they are with Pakistan and cannot dictate terms to us. Take a step back and think about it. we made a deal for 6 330 Airbus tankers with EADS and cancelled it later to give it to the US for a variant of C-130J. Why will GoI do that unless it is sure that it will be able to keep the EADS (i.e. existing relations) happy . My bet is on the Typhoon - most likely as it will be a way to placate EADS on the other hand use the Carrots and Stick policy with the USofA to get them in line with our ultimate goals and strategies.

We can say oh despite an order already placed we are cancelling and giving the 6 tankers deal to you and on the other hand say to EADs that we will definitely buy the Typhoon. We are keeping the French happy too with the scorpene deals and the reactors deals and also Russia with the PAK-FA and the reactors and mig 29K deals.

I am telling you we are playing smart and it is good for us. Let us not worry about the USofA, they cannot and will not harm our interests when they stand to gain so much in the coming years.

this is politics.... everyone is always aware of why the other peron acting like the way he does....its just that you use the situations to your advantage rather then letting them go uselessly... it is kind of hard bargaining...
