. . .
Had not seen that demonstration before. But that picture of the wreckage is sad indeed. Thanks for sharing

. . . .
It was lost to another F-16 during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan when they went to intercept a group of 6 Mig-23s. The formation leader was Wng Cmdr Amjad Javeed, who perhaps shot off the AIM-9 in haste before acquiring a lock? Or perhaps there were other circumstances, but clearly there was some miscommunication that day which led to the own aircraft being shot down. Flt Lt Shahid Sikandar, thankfully was able to eject safely and returned to base after enjoying the hospitality of the locals.

This part is heresy, as I can not corroborate the story, but someone told me that the Wng Cmdr used to be called AK Lima afterwards as jest (maybe it was AIM-9L variant instead of the AIM-9P). But take that with a grain of salt.

No. He got permission to fire first from AHQ, while No.2 was awaiting his orders. Leader fired the missile but the trajectory of the missile went through No.2's wing when he moved in front to maintain the chase for the MiG. Leader was grounded and left the air force (an impressive fighter pilot and a stellar officer....he evaluated the Mirage 2000-5 at one point). No.2 is still flying to this very day. There was not that much hospitality that was enjoyed....just plain lucky. (No.2 is my old man).

You can see him displaying the F-16 in the video I posted. He was OC No.14 Squadron.

sorry to change the topic but in observing the air display in the post above, I see that PAF F-16s to-date do only 2x rolls in the aileron roll routine ...I don't know why they just to 2x rolls. I know the Turks and USAF teams do 3x rolls and so do the Europan operators. Does anyone have any video of a Pakistani F-16 perfoming a 3x roll?

Also the slow flight is with airbrakes on whereas Turks and USAF and other F-16 operators do not engage airbrakes and hence get a much higher AoA and therefore a much lower speed.

I like PAF's F-16 loop manuevre (at relatively low speeds) as very few airforces do this in air displays but the 2x rolls and the alpha pass is much to be desired. ALso this video is from mid-80s and our routine has not changed much since then...which is also disappointing
