Given close Turkish/Pak relations this gives F-16s security against interferance.

Hi,

No disrepect meant---I don't think that you thought before writing that comment---or you do not know---you tell us.

Turkey or anyone else cannot sell us anything related to the F16's without the permission of the united states.

And when we received equipment during the last sanctions---it was known to the U S---but they just looked the other way---.

Its not the matter of pride dear. When the top brass made this decision to go for F-16s there were so many factors behind this decision.
1- Our economy at that time was not so strong so we can not buy a new jet and bear its induction cost, training, infrastructure, maintenance facilities and tactics development.
2- We had AMRAAMs (a long awaiting weapons for BVR combat )and other advance equipment (New Radars, Sniper Pods, More powerful engines, and other up-gradation in avionics) with those F-16s.
3- Its operationally very easy to induct F-16s in PAF' s current doctrine.
4- Ground Crew and Pilots are familiar with this platform for quite long time.
5- PAF's Engineers and Technicians are trained to maintain this jet.
6- It also gave PAF an opportunity to upgrade their old fleet on same standard like 50.

Yes for these 8 jets, we were going for them because USA subsidize this deal by almost 65% and for us its a very attractive offer.
But situation has change now, so may be the high command will try to get second hand jets from any other country at cheap price and then upgrade them just like they did with old 45 F-16s. ----OR----
May be they will go for atleast 2 squadrons for any other modern Jets..like SU-35 or J-10s (Seems not feasible)
-----OR------
May be they will pour these funds into JF-17 Block 3 up gradation program.

Is it you who makes policies for China to do business with whom?
Why you people every time spread this silly statement. If you dont know anything about Pak-China relationship then stop posting.

Where are we going to spend the money we save from this deal
On new JF17 or going for j10?

.
@Zibago it really depends i mean there are multiple possibilities firstly you can get J 10 C off the shelf you dont need to wait for that...secondly if you want JF 17 in its current form then you must add a decent pod for ground attack in order to make it viable for operations in FATA....and thirdly if you can wait for like 10 years then invest this money in the FC 31 programme...

.
@MastanKhan tomorrow is the last date for issuing the LoA...judging by the way things are proceeding i don't think Pakistan is going to do that...so that brings me to my question...where does PAF go from here?????

.
Paf will go for improvements in jf-17 they are going to buy j-10 abc that chapter is closed.

i don think so they are unpredictable,
they will still aim for f-16s, and will focus on thunder
if they have funds they will opt for j-10 otherwise second hand f-16s
focus will also be to look for fifth gen solution looking ahead with respect to indian inducting its fifth gen plateform

main issue is and will remain financing

its time the that armed forces should focus on reducing its man power, waste of money and focus more on quality rather than quantity

Hi,

My information says financing is not an issue----. It is just what the people think that it might be an issue---so they make it an issue.

otherwise---the threat would not have been made---" we can go elsewhere---this is not the 90's ".

Hi,

That is not an intelligent answer.
Hi,
Well it was not even an answer but to avoid any conflict.
See I am on PDF since 2006 or may be before that but i was not participated in discussions here. I was just acting as an observer and reader.
I always read your post along all other senior members like Horus, Windjammer, Penguin, Zarvan and others....and i also closely observe every defense related, economical and international affairs matter related to Pakistan. I even sometime agree with your point of view and some time didn't. But i respect everyone's point of view what ever they think seems fit according to their mind.
But i always try to write something which is near to ground realities if not 100%. So its your right to agree or disagree with that but avoid such statement like story teller or something. I don't want to exchange any harsh words with my fellow Pakistanis so if you are disagree with me, then come with logic and fact sheet. If you agree then i would say thanks.
This is my policy to be here.
Regards

I mean no disrespect but pak never had those 700 million dollars they barely managed 270 millions which where needed as a compulsion to pay for 8 block 50/52 f 16s hence its need less to say they had so much money it was actuly a great oppertunity missed because in 270 million you will never get 8 jets brand new and with decent capabilities as f 16s.

brag all you want about f 16 but currently f 16 block 50/52 is better than anything you have or you will have in near future and pak airforce needed them urgently to fill some gaps and with no funds they must be hurt like hell.
i dont think their is much money saved from this to invest in jf 17 or to buy j 10(lol not even half squadran in 270 million) or to invest in any other program.
