for past few months there have been many reports of Pakistan interest in su 35 for its anti ship role and many pdf members here are also supporting the purchase but i am unable to understand that why are we procuring and totally new jet and not using f 16 with harpoons for anti ship role. we know this platform inside out have spares and supply chain for it and we also have harpoons in our inventory. instead of purchasing new block harpoons and f 16 why are we going for Russian jet which will be extremely expensive considering support infrastructure and training cost of new jet.
if your argument is range then new block 52 with cft and drop tanks can provide enough range.

The new plane Sukhoi-35 is more capable that is why, and twin engines have better survival rate over sea missions in case on of the engines are hit.

• Better radar
• More Maneuverability
• More powerful engines , more payload
• More hard points
  
• Longer power to stay flying for longer missions

If egypt can have 200 F16 and also have Russian best military gear I don't see why we can't also have a multiple jet force

We need latest generation birds also in fleet

The time is here when we finally agree that 1970's Mirage is past its time and its time to urgently upgrade the birds with JF17 Block 3 and Sukhoi-35 or Similar generation planes


Or else example of Syria or Libya is before us or even Iraq flying planes 1-2 generation older then rest of world and now their cities are destroyed

National Defence should be based on national needs , not what is being offered we should strive to get the best planes in market

Problem is that US will not provide this missile anymore.They already accused us to illegally modifying harpoons for land attack. But we are using them in PC 3 orions.

given the numbers of f-16, i don't think it will be used in ASM role, that role is currently being done by Mirages with exocet and in future it will be replaced by Jf-17 armed with cm-400/ c-802. SU-35 and F-16 have a role as air superiority fighter.

Problem is that US will not provide this missile anymore.They already accused us to illegally modifying harpoons for land attack. But we are using them in PC 3 orions.

Its really about , diversification , why put all apples in one basket?

Why should we trust national security of whole damn country on 1 plane ? For which we do not even have replacement parts unless we apply 2 years in advance to some politicians in other country. In 1990's we were sanctioned for 10 years

Air-force should spread its distribution evenly to multiple suppliers so that in case of lack of parts on one platform we always have a sharp active Air-force flying

Pakistan air-force has many options

a) Invest in Sukhoi-35 platform
b) Start a project with Turkey
c) Maturing of JF17 Block 3
d) Arrival of Chinese Next Generation Jet


The ideal plane for NAVY is no doubt the Sukhoi-35

The debate is really about replacement of 180 birds with 100 birds of newer generation that is what we need

Its not a gap an odd 3-4 F16 can fill

in maritime role minimal maneuverability is required as proven by p 3 orions and p8 Poseidon.and f16 is also one of the most nimble fighter jets
f 16 can also be upgraded with aesa radar although it it is early to assume it as we don't know when will usa will release it to us but same can be said about su 35 we don't know when Russia will sell it to us.
cost effectiveness and training required for f 16 is far less then new su 35
if usa can embargo f 16 so can Russia.

AESA isn't a big issue... When you have 8 AWACS.. The F-16s radar is very capable ... Apart from that even JF will have an AESA..

The only advantages SU-35 will have over F-16 is loiter time,range and payload.
