Can anyone name the legit Pakistani Basmati brands?
Not sure of the newer cultivar. But i buy around 300kg/year rice to store and cycle it out every 3 years; it is in cold storage for extra maturing. I found Falak brand which was very good. But have been challenged thereafter to find it.Nope India is doing this to reserve a higher share of their good quality for export and to keep the price of rice down to compete in export market.
This is part of Indian economical war on Pakistan. If India don't exports it's rice and if high quality goes in domestic consumption the figure India is left with to export is very little where as Pakistan still has more margins to export. In this way India loses it control over Bangladesh which is largest exporter of Indian rice. Bangladesh will then have to develop ties with Pakistan to meet its demand.
Now Pakistan has developed a new average quality basmati with help of China to counter India in south Asia. It will be launched this year. It is a high yield Indian quality matching type and will sell at lower price than India. Our super basmati will dominate west and new will target south Asia.
@zip few days back there was an Iraqi tender opened and Indian quoted price was only $30 higher than Pakistan we got the tender.
In irani tender we quoted higher price for a best quality tender than you and we won that as well.
FALAK is a very good brand and old too and I am shocked that a south African knows about it. World is a small place. Not sure of the newer cultivar. I tried various indian - dheradun I think name it was ok. I found Tilda over rated and over priced. I think most indian basmati rice is very high yield but not good in terms of being quantified on the basmati scale if there is something like that e.g. aroma, el dente'ness, long grain etc. I am old school and want to preserve the older varieties.
I tried rice to grow but our biggest challenge is water. Just tried it once but a major failure.
Not sure of the bag packaging; i bought 50kg sisal bags. I liked the smell so bought entire 300kg when i was in Fordburg where i get the rice from. There after I never saw it and asked the retailer to source again but he never did; not sure why he has difficulty in getting it. He said this was good rice, so bought it. Right now, i am using unknown brand Pak basmati he supplied me. Gaborone across the border is where there is a large wholesale retailer but they mostly carry indian rice.FALAK is a very good brand and old too and I am shocked that a south African knows about it. World is a small place.
