  • Export of beverages produced by U.S. corporations to Iran has been prohibited since the 1990s.
  • The license to export alcohol-free beverages comes in the face of government efforts to inhibit access to U.S. goods.
  • ArKay exec: We will export drinks to Iran and will create jobs for American workers. This is a win-win.
On behalf of the United States Department of State, Secretary of State John Kerry approved a distribution contract signed in September between ArKay Beverages and Sonateb Parsian Ltd.

Export of beverages produced by U.S. corporations to Iran has been prohibited since the 1990s. The U.S. government now takes the position that the new license aims to empower the Iranian people as the Iranian government intensifies efforts to inhibit access to American goods.

The approval document, which came into effect last week, allows for the export and re-exports from the U.S to Iran of ArKay alcohol-free liquor, Alcohol free-beer, and ArKay alcohol-free whiskey flavored cola.

“Now ArKay beverages will be accessible to 100 million consumers in Iran,” said David Angel, Arkay’s vice president of sales. “This benefits everyone. We will export our soft drinks from the U.S. to Iran. This will create more jobs for American workers. This is a win-win situation.”

ArKay Beverages, headquartered in Melbourne, Florida, produces alcohol-free liquors, cocktails, and beers, and ArKay Whisky flavored cola.

congratulations my dear Zarif lovers! DIPLOMACY worked, now you can ruin your life by original American carbonated drinks! even before the suspension of sanctions. could it be better?
American workers got a job too. a true meaning of WIN-WIN !

Things aren't too bad mohsen jan. The whole world drinks Coke and Pepsi (all American) and their economies are just fine.

.
Truly a Win-Win scenario.

Both for diabetes and yankee co.

And Fvck people's health . FVCK what all health experts yell .
I wonder WTF is our health minister doing besides pissing off doctors

I can understand, you are upset as a Dr, but don't you think adults should, be able to make choices on what food they are going to eat all by themselves.

You and rest of your zealot friends have no simple understanding of economy.the age of Ahmadinejad is over.your basije mahal should start dictating that to you.

Its not about being a zealot or a basije. I'm neither. I'm not a basiji, I don't care much about religion, and I know quiet a bit about business. But this deal is going to set us back. This deal is giving up your rights in exchange for being able to buy consumer items. It is a loss-loss for our nation. On the business side, the only people who will benefit are mainly foreign companies and Iranians who can make deals, which will be mainly the sort of Iranian government officials who are talking about democracy & human rights.

Do you know how Ahmadenijad could have been the darling of the political elites? Just doing this. He could have made a deal like this and made Rafsanjani and Larijani happy, and they would be singing his praise now.

You guys need to remember that sometimes long term benefits are difficult in the long term. Otherwise, it wouldn't be so difficult to plan and execute them. Why doesn't everyone have a great body? Because it's such a freaking hassle to go to the gym everyday and eat healthy. So only a select few are willing to put in the effort to trade short term benefits (sleeping on the couch) for long term benefits (exercise everyday so you see the benefit in 2 years). It's the same wit everyday personal decisions. Why isn't everyone a doctor? Because while 90% of people would like to go out and have fun, only a few would be willing to study until late at night so they become a doctor in 10 years.

This is exactly the same way. Of course allowing the west to come in and inspect your bedroom in exchange for them paying you for your oil and giving your ready made products is easy.

All the criticism, labelling and sloganeering is worthless if you you're not offering a better solution...

Yes, I have a solution. Continue the way we were going and get better.

I don't have the exact data on hand now, but by 1979, 65% of Iran's food had to be imported. I remember reading somewhere that most of our meat was imported from USA. When the revolution occurred, our access to meat supply suddenly was cut off .

This is concerning. I don't mean that we should be self-sufficient in every single thing. But we should have the ABILITY to be self-sufficient and then import materials if we can utilize our human capital in better ways.

Iranians need a room to breath from the heafty sanctions. You have got Dubai as your own "free zone" which enabled you to do everything and please your taste. That's perhaps why it is easy to lecture about the value of resistance, patience, and the nice feeling of hassle Mr. Khodomoni.

I can do everything & more in Iran than in Dubai. Do you honestly think that I had more freedom in Dubai than in Iran?

I am not talking about freedom here, but about the openness of Dubai market and its full liberalization in comparison to Iran (under the sanctions). Do you prefer to pay double the price for smuggled products? You know what I mean Bazari.

In terms of economic decisions, what works for Dubai won't work for Iran. In terms of area size, size of expatriates, political makeup, etc is vastly different than Iran that comparisons is generally unhelpful.

The Iranian people need economic prosperity, rather than wasting money on the usless wars of the tazis who have nothing to Iranians but deeply felt hatred.

Okay, now you are just stringing random words together. You can add a few other keywords in your sentences if it makes you feel better. I recommend "mullahs", "farsis", "majoos", "young people", "sectarian", "freedom", "human rights". Mix and match, and enjoy.

That's ironic I thought they already had coca cola and Pepsi there via black market.
And doesn't Iran also have zamzam cola. They could drink that instead of buying up American drinks.
Nothing wrong with non main named brand cola.

Coca cola and pepsinis not black market. It was made under license but a few years back the original companies renegaded on their contract, so the Iranian companies refused to shut down the factories and continued making them

nevertheless it's called Ettehad, bro.
and that's why today our carbonated drinks consumption is 4 times bigger than the world average. some dudes were really busy. self-sufficient in carbonated drinks and missiles!

By the way have you ever asked yourself why Parliament put high taxes on such dangerous things as carbonated drinks and cigarettes ? It Was not the Parliament itself several year ago that stopped government from increasing cigarette taxes as much as they wanted ?
