Export bids for JF-17 Thunder Multirole Lightweight Fighter Aircraft

PAC aircrafts: two types of planes developed and manufactured by Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) namely Super Mushak, a trainer plane, and a third generation fighter plane JF-17 Thunder received plausible attention of the foreign exhibitors. Potential sales and work orders worth $40 million are under negotiation and on the process of finalisation, mostly being put forth by countries from Africa and the Middle East.

Air Cdre Suhail Salim (retired), Director Sales and Marketing of PAC Kamra, announced that after fulfilling PAF's needs in a year or two, PAC will turn its attention towards commercial exports. He further said that the potential orders of JF Thunder are more than hundred in number, as it is proving to be the lowest cost fighter aircraft of the third generation internationally. 'Here at the IDEAS-2012 more than 19 official delegates from various countries have shown keen interest in purchasing the aircraft,' he added.

Couple of questions..

1. Orders worth $40 million ?? That would mean 2 JFTS ???
2. How come PAF's needs would be fulfilled in an year or 2.. ??

adding to the above, the PAF wants atleast 2 batches in active service before initiating the export orders. The delay is from our side, while customers await.

Is there a confirmed list of orders that are on wait mode while PAF orders are being fulfilled... ?

1. since it seems as if online translator has been used, thus its giving a 40M figure, may be the correct figure is not being translated.

2. in 2 years time period, first batch would be in service, 2nd batch would hopefully start production and PAC has plans to upgrade / expand the production lines to coup up with the PAF order as well as export orders, that is why the 2-3 year timeline is being provided. But still nothing can be said about future plans. Some delay might happen.

There would not be a confirm order, but countries which are showing interest must have told what their expected initial requirements are, based on that PAC & Chengdu will make / alter their future plans or upgrade their infrastructure to meet the expected numbers.

Its been a year since the thread started any confirmed orders yet or is it all conjecture???

It is probably a mixup. The orders are not for JFT, but they are unspecified orders to PAC. The orders for JFT were separate and not specified for price but numbers.

PAC receives orders worth $40 million

you seem to be the one in a hurry for obvious motives....

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani officials have confirmed Chinese assertions that the co-produced Chengdu Aerospace Corporation (CAC)/Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft could be exported to at least one African and one Asian customer by 2017-2018

have a nice day!

I personally agree that the exports of JFT (except to Pakistan), will not happen for at least 5 more years which will fulfill the PAF needs of approx 100 more aircraft (if a run rate of 20/year can be maintained by China and Pakistan).

For Pakistan JFT was never a cash cow for generating Forex, but is an inexpensive route to replace the part of its force that has become almost of a vintage category..

The more time is given to JF-17, the more it will mature; hence more refined and more flexible. By 2016/17 customers will have two different engine types for FC-1, different class of SOW/glide bombs and various classes of A-A weapons....then can even get FC-1 capable of employing Sidewinder and MAR-1 missiles. If more western weapons manufactures open their products for JF-17 then we can even see a mix of West and Chinese design:)

Nigeria and Azerbaijan would be my guess.

I don't Think so NAF received 12 F-7NI between 2009-2010.

Egypt could be the one mentioned as African Country [quite confusing but it is actually an african country] and Azerbaijan an an Asian Country.

To me Chinese practice to sell older generation Aircrafts A-5/F-7 is a bad marketing they should restrict or limit including spares so only FC-1 availability is an option and gets exposure. Recently F-7BGI to BAF, F-7NI to NAF, A-5s to sudan that is just bad bagging quick little cash.

When will PAF orderbooks be completed? any idea?

2015-16.. ..so that when it starts producing for export.. it would be able to start deliveries by 2017.
Hence the timeframe hint :azn:

IT must be clear.. THAT THERE WILL BE NO EXPORT UNTIL THE PAF'S OWN ORDERS ARE MET.
