We can only wait and see what they will choose. Moreover, arms sales isn't always about capabilities, political considerations are often involved as well.
Plus putting a rover on Mars has nothing to do with topic at hand, neither does any country considers that when buying weapon, so don't understand why you are bringing this up. You saying Russia hasn't done that before hence your weapons are better than theirs is a laughable reason. Lol So does that mean that Russia will also have better weapons simply be a there are things they have done which China still hasn't? Lool

Then what political influenced has Russia do more than China? You are talking nonsense. In terms of trade and international influence, China shall have upperhand over anything Russian thrown.

Tal y como informamos en el día de ayer desde Zona Militar, se mantuvo una reunión bilateral con autoridades del Ministerio de Defensa de China para el abordaje de cuestiones de cooperación en materia de defensa.
Dentro de las cuestiones a tratar, además del objetivo principal de avanzar en las capacitaciones conjuntas para las operaciones de Mantenimiento de Paz y la cooperación entre estudios estratégicos entre ambas naciones; el equipamiento militar fue una de las temáticas más importantes: según la confirmación a Zona Militar por parte de una alta fuente del Ministerio;

Uno de los comentarios más destacados de la reunión se circunscribe a la apuesta de la Republica Popular China a las iniciativas argentinas de restitución de capacidades militares. Desde el Ministerio de Defensa chino se sostuvo el total apoyo a los planes de equipamiento que involucran a distintos ofrecimientos que fuimos adelantando a lo largo del año. Esto puede leerse como una intención de acompañamiento de China a distintas necesidades que posee actualmente el Instrumento Militar Argentino y que por cuestiones de política, como de presupuesto, no puede avanzar a un paso sostenido.

Los dos ejes propuestos vuelven a situarse en el caza multirrol JF-17 Thunder y el blindado VN-1. En ambos casos, la propuesta china toma relevancia, no solamente por su menor peso presupuestario frente a otras opciones, sino por las facilidades que ofrece el país asiático para la producción conjunta. En este sentido, se menciona que la transferencia tecnológica de estas propuestas superan a las de sus competidores, siendo estos rusos, estadounidenses y brasileros principalmente y según ambos proyectos en curso (VCBR y caza supersónico).

La cuestión de la incorporación del JF-17 Thunder principalmente entre los planes de reequipamiento para la Fuerza Aérea Argentina, fue motivo más de dudas que de certezas más allá de incluirlo dentro del Presupuesto 2022, dado que aún se analiza entre cinco alternativas.
Además de la participación del Ministro de Defensa argentino, Jorge Taiana, y el Ministro de Defensa chino, Wei Feng He; estuvieron presentes diversas autoridades que participarán en el desarrollo de los 7 acuerdos y 5 mecanismos de trabajo que se mencionaron. Dentro de la delegación argentina, participaron: el Jefe del Estado Mayor Conjunto, General de División Juan Martín Paleo el Secretario de Asuntos Internacionales para la Defensa, Francisco Cafiero; el Jefe de Gabinete de Asesores del Ministerio de Defensa, Héctor Mazzei; la Subsecretaria de Planeamiento Operativo y Servicio Logístico, Lucía del Carmen Kersul; el Subsecretario de Asuntos Internacionales, Dr. Roberto De Luise y el Embajador argentino en Beijing, Sabino Vaca Narvaja; entre otros.

Perhaps likely. However, I would not count potential customers just yet. Venezuela has totally broken finances & I do not think that they would be in a position to buy big ticket armament for a number of years yet. I just can not say much about others apart from observing that Bolivia shares a border with Argentina.

Looks like Chinese are pitching much more than 12 units.

Over the past decade, I recall that Argentinians had been looking for tech transfer & local production, possibly renaming the Argentinian version as Palqui-III. The sources were shady & could not be considered reliable, though. Argentina does have an industry that makes sub-sonic IA-63 Pampa aircraft. Not having anything to make would make Argentina lose this sliver of industry. If Argentina commits to JF-17, it is only natural that they would want some sort of co-production, even if components. I would not be surprised if Argentina opts for a sizeable order and local assembly. But they have to make their choice first. Time will tell.

Venezuela has totally broken finances & I do not think that they would be in a position to buy big ticket armament for a number of years yet. I just can not say much about others apart from observing that Bolivia shares a border with Argentina.

With oil price creeping back to high point. Venezuela is on buying spree potential. They have bought plenty of Chinese arms previously.

Dear friend, I would love to see that happen. I also hope that Argentina sale opens more doors in South America. Argentina could provide services (maintenance, overhaul, etc...) with their infrastructure.

Exports sales prospects of JF-17

The export prospects of JF-17 Thunder continue to grow. Successful sales of 16 aircrafts to Myanmar and 3 to Nigeria (with option for more) have been concluded.
Currently, publicly we know that the talks are going on with Argentina, Azerbaijan and Iraq. JF-17 was also the leading contender for Malaysia’s procurement program but the deal could not materialize due the the South China sea dispute and ultimately JF-17 tender was not submitted by Pakistan or China.

Argentina: Fuerza Aérea Argentina (Air force) has had a tough time trying to re-arm it’s combat forces due to budgetary constraints and export restrictions by UK. This leaves Argentina with very limited options of trying to procure a capable fighter aircraft. All these factors play to the strengths of JF-17. Pakistan faced similar scenarios of import restrictions and budgetary constraints and JF-17 project was designed from get-go to counter these factors. Argentina has allocated USD 664 million for purchase of 12 JF-17 Block IIIs. USD 20 million is for supporting infrastructure. This allocation has been made but the final decision is yet to occur. Argentina would find it difficult to procure any other aircraft that matches the capabilities of JF-17 Block IIIs at such prices. However, political spoilers are still possible. US would likely make an aggressive proposal to counter expansion of Chinese defense exports in South America.

Azerbaijan: The defense attaché of Azerbaijan recently reiterated the interest in buying JF-17. Politically, the relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan have improved greatly over the last few years especially after Nogorno-Karabakh conflict, where, Pakistan, along with Turkey & Israel provided significant support politically and in military’s equipment and training to Azerbaijan leading to a complete Azerbaijanian victory over Armenia and restoring Azerbaijan’s sovereignty in the region. There was little political cost for this support for Pakistan, given that internationally, the region was recognized as Azerbaijan’s territory and Pakistan does not have significant economic links with Armenia. This upsurge in relations could possibly help close the deal. Currently, Azeri air force is equipped with obsolete 5 Mig-21s, 10 Mig-29s and 12 Su-25s. Jf-17 Block IIIs would provide significance upgrade in combat capability of Azeri air force.

Iraq: There have been reports of significant talks between Pakistani and Iraqi defense officials to conclude a deal to purchase 12 JF-17s Block IIIs. Officials on both sides remained tight-lipped publicly as is often the case with defense related purchases. Iraqi airforce has been one of the largest in the Arab world if not the most modern when compared with the rich Gulf states. Post-war, IQAF’s most significant purchase has been of around 36 F-16IQ Block 52s. The lack of Lockheed-Martin contractors support due to budgetary and security issues has led to significance downgrade operational readiness of the F-16s. Less than half of the F-16 fleet has some semblance of combat readiness operationally currently. JF-17 Block IIIs compared to Block 52s are not only cheaper to procure (~$50m vs ~$85m) and operate, but also provide significant avionics advantage. Block IIIs are equipped with AESA radar compared to F-16’s pulse dopplers, providing a generational gap in radar technology. JF-17 Block IIIs will also come equipped potent arsenal. F-16s delivered to Iraq are without AIM-120s, lacking capability to engage in beyond-visual range combat, while JF-17s could come armed with PL-15 Long range air-to-air missiles. In modern air combat, that’s as good as being un-armed, as if entering a combat with a sword while your opponents are carrying rifles. JF-17s would come with no political strings attached.
So overall, there are talks ongoing, but as is the case with defense procurements, there are often strong elements of geo-politics overshadowing the capabilities of the platform. Until a deal is inked and planes have landed at customer locations, things remain fluid, nothing is done until everything is done.

The East African Community is also a potential major customer. EAC is shared by 6 member countries, namely, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda and Southern Sultan. The 6 member states of the EAC plan to merge to form the East African Federal in 2023. Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and North Sudan are also ready to join. All 9 countries have good diplomatic relations with China, and most of their troops use weapons made in China. If the East African Federal is established, I think it is likely to buy a large number of JF17.

Im not in favor of offering JF-17 to Africans or any unstable country, this is a lethal machine at par with F-16 block 52 , offering them to any rough state is like devaluing our product. We should not be in hurry to offer our blk3s for sales
