I am excited at the prospect of NAF potentially inducting up to 40 JF-17 planes. That would be 2 squadrons' worth. Would this influence other African nations to opt for JF-17? What is the extent of Nigerian influence in Africa when it comes to arms procurement & deployment?

We all know that getting into the military or civil aircraft market is not easy. The big 5 have covered this market probably 85-90%, leaving morsels for the likes of China and Pakistan etc. IMHO Pakistan has done well so far, Myanmar 16 with options in conjunction with China. The Nigeria order will be huge boost for JF17 export prospects. Sri Lanka still may come around. We know the JF17 is a perfect fit for the 3rd world airforces of Asia and Africa especially the Block3 version. Now that the B model is also available, things should look up going forward. Upgrading the JV marketing team would add a lot of impetus to the sales. So at least our pakistani forum members should try and stay positive.

Nigeria and Pakistan have had very close military cooperation for nearly 50 years.

We also have the largest economy in Africa, and are ranked number 21 in the world.

We are a major influence in Africa, and the founding member of the African Union. If the JF-17 performs as advertised in the Nigerian Air Force, be rest assured other countries in Africa will buy it.

The Nigerian air force in 2019 flew 6773 flight hours in 2,105 combat sorties. There is not a better Air Force for the JF-17 to prove it's combat capabilities than the Nigerian Air Force in Africa.

Nigeria has the ambition to be leader of Africa. They are facing challenge from Ethiopia and South Africa.

F7 will be retired by all air forces due to lack of support..who are going to support these?

You only have to look at their training pipeline to see they dont have enough pilots in their system to support that many JF17 pilots.

Maybe they are slowly re investing in those inadequate area. A big reason why twin seater JF-17 are needed despite previous stance that twin seat is not necessary for PAF. Those twin seat may in fact more needy for Nigeria AF than PAF.

You can see Nigeria army recently purchase a big arm procurement from China for its army. The same can be say for AF soon.

Correct ..the f7 are grounded and scrapped and they dont have pilots but intent is there and they are sending regular pilots to pakistan for training and deals seem to be inclusive of maintenance (hence the high cost)... All these pointing out towards a larger order

They arent as broke as argentina(or like pakistan) have the money and have the young booming population

IIRC the PAF was marketing the JF-17 to Senegal. Sudan could be a factor too.

neither of these countries will get jf17
sudan simply has no regional desires and is dictatorship so they will probably focus on tanks and keeping the arabs happy( & in turn USA) happy
while Senegal simply doesnt has the capacity

IIRC the PAF was marketing the JF-17 to Senegal. Sudan could be a factor too.

Senegal may also face pressure from France to not sign onto the deal. France may try to persuade it with second hand Mirage 2000’s to undercut the deal and prevent Senegal moving out of the French Camp.

The easiest way is to compose a list of African states and cross out the ones that are too small, too poor and poor unstable to afford the JF-17s. you can cross out the ones in the Francophone and American orbit of influence.
