Pakistan Army provides extensive training courses to NWFP police to counter terrorism
PESHAWAR, February 2 (APP): The Pakistan Army is providing extensive training courses to NWFP police to enhance their capacity of fighting out the menace of terrorism and militancy on scientific lines.
The commandos of Pakistan Army have started imparting training to frontier police to meet the growing challenge of militancy and terrorism. The SSG instructors are imparting best training of warfare to jawans of Elite Force at various centres of the country. The imitative has been taken on the directives of Chief of Army Staff General Asfaq Pervez Kayani after provincial government has approached GHQ for the same.
The media men under the arrangements of ISPR visited Ammar Shaheed Training Centre Jalozai Cherat in Nowshera district where the training of the 3rd batch consisting of 400 individuals of Elite Police Force is successfully in progress under the arrangements of Special Services Group.
The Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in his recent visit to Peshawar while addressing a NWFP police Darbar had paid rich tributes to the Frontier police for their invaluable sacrifices in the war against terrorism and announced Rs.20 million for the Frontier Police Shuhada Fund.
Briefing newsmen, Commandant Special Operation Services School, Col Sajid said that 800 jawans of Elite Force has been so far trained while training of third batch consisting of 400 selected policemen is currently underway at Ammar Shaheed Training Centre Jalozai under SSG arrangements.
During the 16 week long counter terrorism training, he said special focus is being made on weapons handling, physical training, vehicle/body search, police tactics during encounters and accurate firing techniques so that police force could produced good results in fight of terrorism. He said that instructors of SSG and Anti Terrorism Squad are jointly taking part to train personnel of Elite Force on modern and scientific lines.
The Army has provided training assistance to around 8437 police recruits of NWFP police in various recruitment centres from July 2007 to January 2008.
The training of Ist batch of Elite Force was organized at Punjab Regiment Centre Mardan under supervision of SSG staff from August 25 2008 to January 2009 in which 939 individuals were trained. Likewise, 379 individuals were trained at Ammar Shaheed Training Centre Jalozai under headquarters SSG from March 9 to July 2009.
Regarding reservists training, in phase I 368 reservists have been trained at Azad Kashmir Recruitment Centre in 2009 while 490 were provided training at Bloch Regiment Centre and 529 at Frontier Force Regiment Centre from July 27 to August 22, 2009.
The third phase of training was conducted from August 31 to September 26, 2009 in which 467 reservists were trained at Blouch and 409 at Frontier Force Regiments Centres. It may be mentioned here that Pakistan Army had handed over 5000 bullet proof jackets to Swat police to safe their life while combating militancy and terrorism.
Col Sajid said that performance of NWFP police has been enhanced due to training provided by Army and the feedback was very encouraging. To a question, he said that training facilities is being provided to NWFP police after the provincial government has requested GHQ for the same. He said that more training courses would be launched in future.
Constables Haider Khan and Samar Khan who were get training told APP that Pakistan Army is providing them training based on scientific lines that would greatly help them during duties. He said that they will continue to fight shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan Army till complete elimination of terrorists and anti-state elements from our soil. In terms of material assistance to NWFP police, 17000 Short Machine Guns, 150 LMG, G-3 1000, RPG-7 150, Heavy Machine Guns 50, Recoilless Rifle 75mm 10, bullet proof jackets 12000, steel helmets 2000 besides huge quantity of ammunitions so that they could effectively tackled terrorism and militancy in future.
Later, the trainees practically demonstrated before media physical training exercises, firing on targets, vehicles search, raids etc and received warms applause.
