PESHAWAR, Pakistan, Jan 24, 2011 (AFP) - A former Pakistani intelligence officer considered a "godfather" of the Afghan Taliban has died of a heart attack in captivity in the northwest, a senior government official said.

Sultan Amir Tarar, known as "Colonel Imam", was kidnapped by Islamist rebels last March while travelling with another ex-spy and a British journalist in the lawless border district of North Waziristan, a key militants' hideout.

Tariq Hayat, the top administrative official for the tribal areas of Pakistan, said district officials had informed him of Tarar's death.

"I was told by the political administration of North Waziristan that he died from a heart attack," Hayat told AFP.

"He died from a heart attack, but I will say that he was killed by the Taliban because he was a heart patient and if you don't provide medicine to a heart patient you are going to kill him," he said, adding that his body had not been recovered.

Military and intelligence officials could not confirm his death.

Of course these people doesn't know the meanings and worth of a life.

Colonel Imam, a senior figure in Pakistan’s ISI intelligence agency, was credited with training several leaders of the current Taliban-led insurgency to fight the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan in the 1980s.

He was honoured by President George Bush for playing a key role in 'Charlie Wilson’s War’, the Congressman who launched Operation Cyclone, a programme to organise and support the Afghan mujahideen in their resistance to the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.

He remained a strong supporter of the Taliban-led insurgency against Nato forces after it was ousted in 2001, but was kidnapped in North Waziristan in March last year along with another former ISI spy and a British television journalist.

On Monday night sources close to one Taliban faction in North Waziristan said the group was holding an inquiry to establish which faction had killed him and warned those responsible will be killed.

Pakistani analysts said his murder revealed the weakness of the main Afghan Taliban leadership in North Waziristan and challenged Washington’s claim that the tribal area is a stronghold of Taliban-led insurgents attacking Nato forces in Afghanistan. The United States has said a Pakistan Army offensive against militant ’safe havens’ in North Waziristan is vital to any victory against the Afghan insurgency.

Itvery much clear that TTP is working for anti Pak powers. They must be destroyed. Even US can be there main backers. Pakistan must be alert and ISI must continue its clandestine support of Afghan Taliban which is its main weapon after the neuclear weapons.

Pak security forces and intelligence must work intensively inside the country to uproot the internal spy network of US agents and eliminate there political supporters specially inside ruling party, MQM and other anti Pak political forces. They must take out whatever info they can from Davis using same methods the Americans themselves using in Guantanamo torture cells against so called Al Qaeda members. While Pak Army n Intelligence must continue using Afghan Taliban as there most valuable asset to destroy US in Afghanistan.
