What's new

Even the Moscow Times today editorial scolds Putin/Russia

@American Eagle,

what is the prospect of 'asia pivot' now?

Based on economics China, India, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Phillippines are the economic focus.

Militarily, China is seeking military parity with today's self defense force of Japan.

Indonesia, at least economically, is going great guns, making money hand over fist

Malaysia is a key form of regional democracy which might be a working model for others.

Germany lost almost half of its territory after WW2. Never underestimate ambition of the Germans.

Have you ever been to Germany ? Quit trolling son....We can have a discussion tonight or we can have retarded statements like yours...choose fast

China has over 25 times the territory as Japan. To think Japan can counter China is a joke. :disagree:

There is an old Chinese saying, you may know a person and know his face, but you won't know his heart. Trust me, Germans and Japanese may act like they love the US, but deep down they hate the US.

looks like pentagon's obsession with the far east made it completely out of sync with the european reality where the historical wounds of previous world war and the cold war are not healed yet.

Well, honestly ,all was fine and most of us thought that old wounds were healed until somebody forgot Putler's meds.We should all thank the mad men for dragging us back to 1945.Ofcourse,the russians themselves applaud him for this...strange nation...to put it mildly...

Because if you don't get it, then you need to grow more brain cells. The EU's backbone is Germany. Germans consider themselves the most superior people of Europe. Ditto with Japan. The far right nationalist party is in power in Japan now, isn't it?

players may be different from time to time but the game field is the same as before, history repeats itself and that is the reality that europeans wanted to bypass

In fact Japan conquered China, Mongolia and the rest of SE Asia during WWII. Not that I like this historic fact.

Japan was not able to keep up its war efforts in China. After losing millions of its soldiers in China, the Chinese front was literally bleeding Japan dry.

Actually, a great deal of Chinese people fought on the side of the Empire of Japan and wished to have a united East Asia that could challenge the US. A united East Asia of course, would have been a great threat to the US.

I was a boy during WWII.

The Chinese and Japanese from WWII hated each others guts, plainly said.

The Nationalist Chinese, now on Formosa, called a truce with the Communist Chinese, and they jointly fought the Japanese.

The massacres and carnage was unimaginable starting in the mid-1930s until the war ended in 1945.

Need to correct - Japanese seized Manchuria, not Mongolia. Mongolia was an ally of the Soviet Union and Soviet-Mongolian allied troops defeated the Japanese in 1939. As a result, nonaggression pact was signed.

"The Soviet–Japanese Neutrality Pact(日ソ中立条約 Nisso Chūritsu Jōyaku?), also known as the Japanese–Soviet Non-aggression Pact(日ソ不可侵条約 Nisso Fukashin Jōyaku?) was a pact between the Soviet Union and the Empire of Japan signed on April 13, 1941, two years after the brief Soviet–Japanese Border War (1939). The pact was signed to ensure the neutrality between the Soviet Union and the Empire of Japan during World War II, in which both countries participated."

Your knowledge of Asian history is very good.

I worked in the Japan/Asia Section of old Manufacturers Hanover Bank, International Dept., as a Sr. Territory Assistant for a few years after my 6 years active duty as a Captain in the USAF. USAF overseas duty was with US Embassy thenin Karachi (1963-65) where we dealt in defense matters with Pakistan and other area nations under both theold SEATO and CINTO Treaties.

The President, Field Marshal Ayub Khan did not particpate actively in the Vietnam War under SEATO, and eventually Pakistan/he withdrew from an inactive status since they joined SEATO. Of course Ayub Khan took all the militarhy and related dollars he could promising to join in the Vietnam War on our side, but ended up a quasi netural, almost pro-Chinese as they started to pour resources into Pakistan to get an economic foothold there. Etc.

moscow times is owned by finnish company you idiot, its western paper like the rest

You are clearly "slow" with facts. During this month, April, 2014, Russia (Mr. Putin) took over the daily newspaper, THE MOSCOW TIMES, and removed the editor of the RIA (Russian Information Agency) and then made her the new head Editor of THE MOSCOW TIMES. What this says is that there is no daily free newspaper left INSIDE Russia. There is one democratic free Russia daily newspaper printed OUTSIDE Russia now, sad to say.

Google search is so easy to use, it will keep you from steping on your left foot with your right foot in terms of correct facts and info in the future.

Japan didn't conquer China, it controlled mostly the southern parts/coast of the country, but at its peak it controlled less than 45% of china. even with that they were still heavy fighting between Japan and the nationalist(kmt) and communist. And we should also know that more than 50% of Japans casualties was in China, same with Germany against Russia., and without the millions of Japanese troops who were bogged down in China, then the war with the U.S will have been totally different. since Japans main military force was mainly fighting/bogged down in China. The mistake Japan made was Invading China, same with Germany invading Russia. They are just too vast to conquer/control totally, it wasn't feasible, and just cost them alot in terms of resources/manpower for no real gain, thus they got bogged down. This is what led to their defeats. What i will call conquered is the way German invaded and conquered France and most of Europe. all the above countries surrendered and were under total German control. I don't know why most of us in the west don't really know about Asia world war II history. i kind of understand it, since i knew almost nothing about Asia, before i went to uni and studied international relations /joined the army. But its unfortunate that after all these years Asia is still so divided, unlike Europe who has largely moved on and learned from its lessons. France and Germany were bitter rivals(worse than even China and Japan now) and fought so many wars against each other, same with Britain and France. we fought some wars and were colonial rivals. but today we are united and allies. Hope the world and mostly Asia can learn from our example of reconciliation and move on. Though i know its just wishful thinking and wont happen anytime soon.:undecided: lol
