He wants to say that since Saladin was a Kurd, Erdogan, a Turk, can never be Saladin. He simply has no idea what Saladin means to the Muslims. He has confused it with nationalism we see nowadays.

it is yet too early to jump into conclusions of who is the next "Saladin" is. But for sure the one who will do it will be even more than Saladin. It is a lot harder now than it was those days and the world is far more bloody.

Organizing an army in those days was much more difficult because communication was primitive. On the other hand, those who see Islam as a threat are also a lot more organized and technologically advanced. In the end, it all boils down to leadership.
