IslamabadTurkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan assured Pakistan that his country would always stand by Pakistan in the hour of trial.
Addressing joint session of the parliament here Monday afternoon, amidst thumping of desks by the members, Erdogan said the two countries would continue to strengthen their close ties in various fields.
He said our brotherly relations and love and affection are an example for the entire world. He said the history has proved that Turkey has always considered Pakistani people as their brothers. He said the two countries share their pains and happy moments. He recalled that his countrysupported Pakistan during 2005 earthquake as well as during the floods that hit the country in 2010 and 2011. He expressed grief over the incidents of Siachen and the recent the plane crash.
He said he feels proud to have got the opportunity to address this august house twice. The Turkish Prime Minister lauded the democratic process in Pakistan and expressed the confidence that parliamentarians would address the challenges facing people of Pakistan.
He said democracy has now become a global culture and we can make progress by adhering to democratic principles. He said multi-party system in Pakistan is a strength of the country and the parliament can safeguard the interests of people of Pakistan. He said a strong democratic Pakistan has much to do with regional peace, prosperity and stability.
Prime Minister Erdogan pointed out that strengthening of the economic structure is a must for strengthening of the democratic process.
He referred to close economic ties between the two countries and expressed the confidence that establishment of high level economic cooperation council, joint economic commission and joint working groups would give impetus to their cooperation. The two countries have decided to take theirbilateral trade to two billion dollars and it is his desire to take it even beyond that he said.
The Turkish Prime Minister also hoped that cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries would also continue. He said both Pakistan and Turkey are important and powerful regional countries and they will continue their joint efforts for peace in the region and the world at large. Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that peace, stability and prosperity in Afghanistan will also have positive effects on the economy of Pakistan.
Expressing his concerns over the problems faced by the Muslim Ummah, Prime Minister Erdogan said that resolution of these problems lies in the unity among the Islamic countries.
Presenting his vote of thanks, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said the address of the Turkish Prime Minister marks another milestone in the long lasting and glorious journey of brotherly relations between the two countries.
