Erdogan: S-400 is a done deal. We will start co-production now and may work with S-500

Go for it ..make Trump scratch his arse from one end to another ...

Trump is currently scarfing down several cheeseburgers and chicken McNuggets

.
Developments of Turkish weapon programs are planned well to expand the productions to years, while improving the technological infrastructure of institutes at higher levels with newer R&D activities at the same time. Turkish institutes are planning to reveal home made long altitude surface to air missile system called Siper in 2021. Siper will be more or less equivalent of US Patriot or Aster-30 missiles but Siper program will be evolved into further configurations like Siper Block-2 to offer more capabilities so That is the reason Turkey required co-production and technology transfer issues to benefit from different technologies.

f35 will be doomed then
No.

F-35 is designed to nuetralize these type of threats actually; you will realize this when you come across declassified bits of information on the web and piece them together for greater clarity. Russian marketing is mostly BS.

I just fail to understand why Turkey is jeopardizing its F-35 deal for a system (i.e. S-400) which utterly failed to impress in Syria. S-500 is not for sale by the way, and too early to hype it. Tayyip Erdogan is not thinking clearly it seems, but populism trumps logic any day.

even Syrian outdated S-200 destroyed Israeli F-16

Russians never used S-400 in Syria and even American Generals said that the power and the range and the lethality of these Russian air defense systems , it's going to make all forms of air support much more difficult

S400 can turn enemy Fighter Jets , Bombers and AWACS to burned bird
and Turkish KORKUT 35mm SPAAG , HISAR-A and HISAR-O air defense systems will protect S400 from cruise missiles

and our S400 will use Turkish Radar software and IFF system

Outdated or not, any capable SAM can pull much higher G's than any aircraft in existence and/or score in the right set of circumstances. However, Israeli Air Force have carried out so many strikes in Syria over the course of years that highlighting this single incident is almost irrelevant. Even Russian-supplied S-300 battery is not making much difference which can be in part due to lack of operational readiness but Israeli sources insist that they are fully equipped to handle it when the time comes.

I am learned enough to disregard this assertion in its entirety. It is in the best interest of American deep state to hype Russian hardware in public because Russian boogeyman is a convenient excuse to fuel its military industrial complex. Russian arms are good on average but US is able to do much better in this domain in comparison, and some American sources have subtly hinted the vast gap in the conventional military might of both countries but these hints do not necessarily generate headlines.

When US forces struck Shayrat airbase in 2017, some Tomahawk cruise missiles bypassed Russian S-400 system from mere 35 KMs in distance and they did not register on its radar (at all) even though the system was active at the time. If Russian operators were to notice them, they would have taken action because Vladimir Putin had authorized them in this regard. This information was a recent leak.

You can certainly learn a great deal from this system (technical knowhow) but I simply wonder why Russia would sell a supposedly very capable defense system to a member of NATO bloc and undermine its own security considerations in the process. Trust me! This is all about making big bucks and hype factor is good if it can attract customers.

India is looking forward to procure S-400 systems as well but Pakistani armed forces have expressed confidence in their cruise missile arsenal. Do the math, friend.

Turkey buys S400 to counter Figter Jets and S400 is the best at defending against high flying aircrafts
to defend against cruise missiles, as it knows the S-300 and S-400 have limited capability in that arena

Radar detection and interception of cruise missile is difficult because the missile's low radar cross section and low altitude flight

S300 and S400 minimum effective interception altitude is claimed to be 10 meters and S-400 is able to down targets flying as low as 10 meters but Cruise Missiiles can flight even at 5 meters

so Turkish KORKUT 35mm SPAAG , HISAR-A and HISAR-O air defense systems will protect S400 and Turkish military and strategic bases from cruise missiles

Turkey will have great air defense capabillity against Fighter Jets and our S400 will use Turkish Radar software and IFF system to engage on every Fighter Jets ( that doesnt matter ,, American or Russian made Fighter Jets )

S400 is game changer weapon to protect national interests in the Eastern Mediterranean and Aegean

after S400 deal with Turkey , more 10 countries interested in S400 and Russia is very happy with it

Turkey will receive the S-400, there's no turning back from here - and there shouldn't be any. What people get wrong IMO is the F-35 issue. If you've been following the program closely you'll clearly see that it is on VERY fragile ground at the moment.

The F-35 was designed to take over every and all NATO air assets, this includes air bases that can service it and logistic bases that can supply it. It's effective because it is (going to be) everywhere. Major weapon systems will be (and is) designed for it.

To cut it short, the F35 can not engage meaningfully if major players do not operate it. It's the new-age F-16 for the NATO if you will.

The thing is, there's huge backlash against the plane and most of it stems from it being very expensive to operate, maintain and even buy. With big orders on it's footstep LM managed to bring down the cost of initial purchase to even out with gen 4 fighters. With bases and service centers opening around the world the maintenance is being brought down too (up to an extent).

Also, with distributing workforce to create various parts of the plane in different parts of the world general availability and repair can be held at a meaningful balance.

For this trend to continue and even maintain the status quo Turkey is essential to the program. Turkey holds the only engine service maintenance center in Europe. It also produces many critical parts of the plane and some of these can only be reproduced in the US.

Turkey also wants to procure an initial batch of 100 A variants (which are ordered in even smaller batches of 10 / 20) and an additional 16+16 B variants. There's rumors of an additional 100 procurement (and we might even look at C's here) to bring up the total to around 230 planes in total.

That is a HUGE number and a very important part of the international sales of the F35.

Now take out these numbers, cancel the servicing centers in Turkey and also cancel the parts that are being manufactured in Turkey. Suddenly your 5th gen fighter (that is selling worse then you need it to even now) is more expensive to buy, even more expensive to generally maintain, has even LESS weapon choices (as some of the F35 armaments are created by Turkey) and to top it all, has no engine repair facility in Europe, meaning yet again, more expensive maintenance.

Can all of these be bypassed by the US? Of course. The US could ramp up orders herself, ask a different NATO nation to build an engine maintenance center, and try and get other partners to build the parts that Turkey is building today.

But that costs valuable time (along with money). That gap won't close in just a few months - or even years. The dipshit called Mathews himself had a conservative estimate of 2 years to replace the Turkish parts, and that was with US parts - not European ones (meaning more expensive to ship these to Europe).

So, the TLDR version is this : If you try and withhold Turkish F-35's from Turkey, the whole program collapses. Yes, the F-35 still flies and the US and UK along with Japan and Israel will continue using them - but the dream of having a one purpose tool that can span the world and be refueled and refitted as needed along the way is crushed. That was the whole reason this plane was created to be so versatile in the first place. This is why it went under SO many re-designs and revisions - it needed to be ambiguous enough to fly everywhere with everyone. To lose this is to lose it all for NATO and the US.

The US is also in deep financial debt, and her markets are looking at a likely recession. Do you think in a time like this they could afford to do anything this drastic?

I'm not even going to go into the money Turkey needs to be paid back and also the loss of further sales (like the 10billion dollars Boeing planes).

Turkey will get her planes, Turkey will get her AA defense systems, and in the future, Turkey will finally manage to be in a situation to arm her closer allies (Azerbaijan, Pakistan etc) with systems like these without the US and Europe being able to bitch about it.

That sounds like an empire, an ability to change course of historical events. It is already taking shape.

To think the entire F-35 program will collapse just because of Turkey would be foolish. We would be happy to replace you in manufacturing parts for the F-35. The US, NATO and their allies are not in a hurry. Even without 5th generation aircraft, their airforces are far stronger than anything you could throw at them.

Also the F-35 was never meant to be a profitable program.
