The U.S must realize that this is not the 90's and must not pay attention to Think-Tanks like these which have the backing of the Indian lobby in Washington. Pakistan has suppliers who will provide top end equipment to it so it basically wont make much of a difference if the united states decides to back out....but having said that the unites states cant afford to lose Pakistan as an ally if it wants a peaceful and a stable Afghanistan.

First of all Guru jee am not a Sir so let's try to be informal in our future conversations.....Secondly I completely understand the taking advantage thing which is why Pakistan decided to diversify its weapon procurement post Pressler...We have J-10B'S on the stand by just in case the united states tries to play smart and slap sanctions on us....the same can be said about helicopters,tanks,submarines...we can go on but you get the general idea....lastly as far as changing route is concerned it did come up when Pakistan blocked the supply lines for a year over the salala incident but it was too costly to operate and hence the idea was dropped altogether..

In next conflict, if it ever comes, US may be replenishing our losses of F-16s instead of sanctioning us just so nuclear threshold is not reached. India may be sanctioned to teeth for the same reason. What happens after the conflict will be an entirely different scene and depends largely on the events before and after the war. Diplomacy will play its part too.

Once you bought a product, your spares are revolved about it. Can a Chinese WZ-9 turboshaft fit in breezely for a Viper gunship? Or a Russian Klimov TV3-117 fit in easily replace honeywell or Pratt whitney engine of AT-129?

The American are smart. They are smart to set a honey trap to entice you to get the product. Once you are in, you need to do her bidding , if not sanction will be slapped on you. THey know you do not have a choice.

Pakistan is not as weak and out of options as folks to our east are made to believe. But never mind; we know that discussion will be endless.

As far relevance of Pakistan, well unless someone figures out a way to geographically relocate Pakistan, it will remain relevant. Similarly until somehow risk of nuclear conflict vanishes i.e. nuclear weapons disappear magically from sub-continent, Pakistan will remain relevant. I don't see that happening. So in simple words, Pakistan will remain relevant (read important) in foreseeable future.
