see this is the problem, youre not just waiting, youre draining your cash, I read this news somewhere, that the cost of the Rafale deal has decreased a lot than the initially agreed upon figure,
im quite sure if you invest that much cash on LCA, eventually you'll have a great homegrown platform.

Even with cash I tell you babus of HAL will not perform unless they will have pitted against Private firms Sadly we are not still there as of now but will soon in a decade.

HAL has produced many good products, have faith in this firm. they assembled SU 30's.... start some joint venture, take help from western countries, PAC isnt this big but we took the help from china and eventually got ourselves a jet that isnt up to the mark as of now but its a start, you already have a lot of Cash, and plenty to learn from the LCA project.you can have joint ventures with other nations,
im pretty sure you are capable of making a really good jet....

MMRCA is becoming a joke.... its been i guess 7 years since the process started and by now IAF should have the jets... but there is no sign of it and in the foreseeable future as well.....

what has this to do with obama?

I think there are many issues involving this deal which is mainly with the pricing and technology transfers and even other international issues which are linked to our foreign policy.

India is having many options and all are offering India different sort of deals. Russians, Americans, Swedish, French etc.

With the IAF operating close to 200 twin-engine Su-30s, the grounded planes represent almost a third of the country’s fighter fleet. India is due to get 72 more of these planes, each worth over Rs. 200 crore.

Five Su-30 fighters have crashed during the last five years, setting off alarm bells in the IAF. The Su-30 fleet has been grounded at least twice in the past.

Yes the cost was different when the deal was signed and now the price is more.

The point here is this the money which is being invested should have guarantees from the Europeans, Russians or Americans that we are not just bank which anyone can in cash. Indians should even get security and dignity.

1. what variant(s) of the Rafale are we going for ?

2. does the deal include the Rafale-M naval variant as well, if so, what's the qty breakdown between naval/AF versions ?

3. what is the actual unit cost as it stands now ? wiki isn't very helpful

I think you do have the resources of start off an entirely new project, if not a J.V that i mentioned before,
plus later redesigned blocks of tejas would surely be better if more investment is done.
