I'm curious! Does its high ROF create logistical issues? Especially the weight of all those rounds. Do your sections have a second slower GPMG like a 240 or M60 to maintain fire superiority while the MG 3 undergoes its mandatory barrel change after 3 100 round belts thanks to its 1200 RPM?
Especially serving PA/paras I'm interested in your feedback in real life experience.

The weight of ammo doesn't matters much as the standard caliber of PA is 7.62*51mm. MG3 & G3 assault rifle both use the same rounds, so the troops have sufficient ammo available. Secondly PA gunners are trained for short bursts, due to which the ammo lasts longer and accuracy is also achieved. And MG3 is used by a 2 man team, thus both carry the ammo.

And no our regular troops don't have a SAW / GPMG kind of weapon. But the Special Forces of Army, Airforce & Navy have SAW weapons mostly in 5.56 & 7.62 category both employed. FN Minimi, RPK, M249 are the most employed.

If I'm reading you correctly the MG 3 isn't used as a GPMG whose primary purpose is to establish superiority of fire by rapid auto fire but rather as a full auto capable assault rifle. Interesting! Is it ever used for its purpose like in extended engagements against enemy in prepared positions when you have to keep the bad guys heads down while your guys move up to assault?

Yups, its used for both offensive (assault) and defensive purposes. Here view some pics and they will give you an idea of its usage in our army.

MG 3 - a deadly weapon, capable of terrorising enemy. Should not be changed. Instead, build up logistics for this gun. AND should be supplemented with 7.62 caliber Gatling gun.

Thanks,Taimi! What I was looking for.

Hmm...of course.

It weighs 40 kgs. WTF will carry it not to mention all the ammo which it consumes at 6000 RPM!?

U r welcome. Well the gattling gun wasn't my idea, it was presented by another poster who has no idea what problems come up if such system gets in the hands of normal infantry guys.

But i think aerial platforms should be given such systems to supplement attack helicopters or help ground troops especially looking at our COIN ops.
