Towards the end of this vid, Elon Musk speaks of the proper political system for the human settlement on Mars. The political system is Direct Democracy like how it was in the Libyan Jamahiriya until the 2011 war.

Jamahiriya Direct Democracy makes sense as it is a scientific political system which if combined with a communist, collectivist, open-source-friendly system will be wonderful - appropriate for the science-oriented early settlement on Mars.

Well, we can hope and work for a transnational project like 'Mars One' for a universal settlement of Mars. If Musk will only take Americans or Europeans, Asia+Africa+Russia+South-America can have a similar program.

Tesla cars need electricity to work and the eco-friendliness of the car goes only as far as the source of the electricity.

Let’s try and get there first before worrying about how it should be governed.

Musk seems confident enough.

And what is a political system but the rules given to an individual to conduct himself in a group. If the rules are scientific then easier will be the group to advance.

I think it is wisdom to adopt Direct Democracy for a start-up society like a Mars settlement.

BTW @jamahir , Elon Musk is not really the voice you want to support your stuff....he says some very strange things, he called the British expert in cave rescue (the one that helped to free the thai boys stuck there recently) as a pedophile...all because that guy called one of his other ideas as stupid.

In any case in space, there should be no govt at all, it should be purely a scientific approach like used in Antarctica today (i.e no such thing as land ownership, but purely research focused). Asteroids and such for mining can be first come, first serve policy. Only when human populations increase beyond research activities, will we have to come up with a govt there, but it should be limited and transparent....i.e no socialism/massive bureaucracy + high individual responsibility.
