Elephants Brutalized in Religious Ceremonies in India

Not just just Hindus, keralite Christians also use elephant in their religious processions.

In any case, Elephants are generally well cared and looked after apart from statutory law.

I just don't like dealing with morons. We have locked horns many times before as fellow Dalits. My ethnicity and cultural background too is very well known here.
well, it doesnt ring any bell.
dalit card apart, surely you have some cultural background as well ? or you write in forms as "Not A Bengali"

Why so much interest in my background? I am from a Maharashtrian, Kannadiga, Tamil, Telugu, and Saurashtrian background. Mixed.

Powerful my foot!!What you are seeing is a manifestation of an acute inferiority complex almost of the southerners seem to suffer from!!Culturally superior, yeah right!! :D
is he from the south ?? why was he so fussy in saying that.
culturally superior or not, I, personally have high regards for southies. they are frigging hard working with dollops of brains.
however, our mutual friend here, must be an exception.

Hard working - definitely, dollops of brains - may be,but make no mistake though, these people are probably the most racist and hateful lot in the hole country,I know what I'm talking about.

Again, you're simply wasting your time bro.You can't change what can't be changed, they think they are the 'superior race' among all the Indians,it's just deeply ingrained into their psyche, they are taught to think like this from their childhood days I guess, bloody Nazis!!

i was lucky that almost all the southies i came in contact with were really good people. hence, my personal view of them are good, to some extent.
but, i can understand what you are talking about.
not too distant past, we, the bengalis, had the same problem.

Oh look horses brutalized, made to perform in shows for profit and fame, and ridden by humans instead of being free in the wild.

Look dolphins brutalized, made to perform tricks for paltry fishes when without performing any tricks it could have eaten loads of fishes in the open seas.

Oh look dolphins brutalized by Navies around the world. Dolphins have been used in several wars over the years to retrieve lost equipment, deliver equipment to underwater divers, and guard boats, putting their lives in severe danger.

Look again horses brutalized made to pull carriages for silly Royal weddings and pomp.

How dare the Hindus work with any animals for religious ceremonies. Animals are only meant to be put up on a leash for secular pleasure.
Does any of that look like its for god, parading in the street with little food and water and beating the animal to death?

How much you do know about our own ezhunllathu and our ancient traditions ?
Have you ever seen a festival in Kerala ?
This is the problem of some people .Passing comments about something that you dont know and by using internet
as only source .
Of Course bad things happened sometimes .But majority are not that bad .
You can use the elephants only in the morning and late evening .It is totally prohibited in between 10 AM and 3 PM .

The owners of elephants spents crores of rupees for their pet.Our Devaswom Board (TDB) have tough rules and regulations and they also spending crores of rupees.

1: Dogs are socially evolved animals which enjoy interactions with Humans; they have evolved for that sole purpose - to be companions of Humans. Putting them on leashes or training them to save lives is completely different from torturing elephants and poking painful holes in them.

2: Again; Dolphins like-wise are social animals and actually enjoy being around Humans. They have a much higher life span, eat a better diet and live in a much better environment compared to wild dolphins.

If we risk our lives to save their lives; then it is completely fine for them to do the same; in case of sniffing out explosives or tracking down mines.

You are comparing two very different things. It would be fine if these animals were cared for properly and used for religious ceremonies IF no harm was inflicted upon them.

The same comments will be passed the min her film is out :pop:

Denial is a very good remedy for ignoring existing problems!

Of Course bad things happened sometimes .But majority are not that bad .
Nobody is talking about majority...

That is the problem with kids who come online and see india in the title and feel obliged to attack the messenger

Yet the article doesnt totally agree!

The owners of elephants spents crores of rupees for their pet.
Chaining a pet until its legs bleed and then beating it to death in a ceremony is a waste of crore of Rs (from POV of a money minded human) not to mention the loss of life and the decreasing population of the poor animals!

.Our Devaswom Board (TDB) have tough rules and regulations and they also spending crores of rupees.
Yet elephants with bloody legs and forced to carry tons of weight as per the article with pictorial proof is somehow ignored?

Funny .
Anyone can use their imagination in their films .
But do we need to cares about that ?
I dont think so.

Seriously? YES one needs to care about a beast so important in a religious ceremony! Did you bother reading the article or were you too busy being butt hurt?
