The Bangladesh Navy on Monday detained eight Indian fishing trawlers along with 135 crews from Kuakata, 36-60 nautical miles inside the Bangladesh-India international maritime boundary while fishing in the deep sea amid the restricted period.

The process of handover of the crews and trawlers to the Mongla police station in Bagerhat is underway for taking necessary legal action.

The government has imposed a 65-day ban on fishing off the Bay of Bengal to try and preserve the fish stock and boost their breeding from 20 May until 23 July.

Hundreds of foreign fishing trawlers were detected on Monday in the Payra area adjacent to the Rabnabad channel in Kuakata.

Seems quite big trawlers housing 135 crew members. If true, it is robbing BD and its people of their valuable resources.

The termites should be shot and bodies disposed in the sea.

Just like they treated their own during covid.

BD navy should show mercy and kindness but blast all those illegal boats in thousand pieces.

Give the captured thieves dal roti and send them home with a tiffin box of halwa to feed their poor families back in their homecountry.

Each trawler is manned by (135/8=) 17 men on average. Trawlers are medium sized - and not that small.

However in my opinion, Bangladesh Navy should make it a rule to confiscate the eight trawlers and then auction them off as punitive measure and fines.

Being too soft on these criminals. A GPS only costs about $200 or less, even in India. There is no excuse.

If you don't punish these people - it will keep on happening.

Look at what BSF does for any supposed incursions from Bangladesh side. Smugglers get killed all the time.

These fishing incursions were for sure deliberate to catch the prized Hilsa fish which is in very high demand.

Agreed with all the points highlighted.
Indeed this is criminal behavior on the part of the crew of the trawlers and intentional.
BD must preserve her resources and reserve the right to punish these criminals. If not actioned the incursions will be frequent and increased.

Sieze the trawlers and give them to poor bangladeshi fishermen. No way can you return their vessels, then they will be back to steal again.

Have you guys noticed??

That TBS newspaper report used to have the picture of these thieving Indian fishermen caught in handcuffs. Now that picture has been replaced with a sea sunset.

Amazing.

If Sanghis think this changes what Bangladeshis think of their nation and it will change just by hiding pictures dictated by the Indian HC, they're so wrong.
