US suspension of delivery of weapons systems including MA-1 Abrams Tanks, what is Egypt's plans would they ask Russians or would they look else where but europe is also not interested in selling them after US the only countries left are Russia, Pakistan, S. Korea. @Anas Ali got any information on second options.

. .

I think Egypt is more interested in getting JF-17. Plus the Chinese can come up together with AWACS package similar offer to PAF which Russian can't offer or similar one.

.
the Chinese friendship is solid no doubt , but the new relationship with Russia will change the a lot in the middle east and the only reliable news came from RIA Novosti : The two countries agreed Thursday to start drafting documents to lay the foundation for close cooperation in the defense sector, paving the way for future purchases and licensed production of Russian-made weapons in Egypt.

How would you compare them with our Al-Zarrars & the Indian T-72 Ajeyas ?

i could be wrong but even though indian ajeyas has a more powerful diesel engine, {akistani Zarrar tank has better power:weight ratio not to mention it has a more advanced fire & control+armament capability

well as is the case with other "major non NATO allies" --- Obama regime in Washington seems to have lost all of its cards in the greater middle east -- taking sides with the wrong people and alienating the people they shouldn't have alienated

the Russians must really be enjoying all of this

Egypt already has over 1000 M1 MBT's and produces over 95% of the tank (according to the minister for military industry). The only kits being delivered from the USA are engines and some minor electronics. Military aid will continue and weapons systems currently being held will be delivered once elections take place the US has no choice but to do so. Egypt won't purchase any Russian armor.

That would be great for Gaza. :cheesy:

I think it has a resemblance with Magach 7 or Sabra Tank? Any Israelis assistance in this upgrade?

But in a long run should not egyptian army replace T-54/55/62 instead of replacing all of them with same M1s which atleast I think is a fatal decision for future conflicts/wars. Taking the path of upgrades for T-54/T-55/T-62 spending significantly instead of new purchase seems to be fruitful but more expensive and logistical/maintenance nightmare, In my opinion not that it matters but egypt should look at into either China T-98G/T-99 or russian T-91MS/S as an alternate to older tanks and further M1s, the M1s are pretty good in number at the moment.

The overwhelming majority of Soviet tanks have been put in reserve (the ones which have been extensively upgraded) or scrapped. Some T-62s remain in service in mechanized divisions and for training purposes.

The M1 serves its purpose and the US can't stop them from running. The licensed production with eventual full ToT and TopT ensured that.

Taking the path of upgrades for T-54/T-55/T-62 spending significantly instead of new purchase seems to be fruitful but more expensive and logistical/maintenance nightmare,

The Egyptian military is proficient in upgrading its Soviet era weaponry and has done so for the past 40+ years with the cooperation of western as well as former Soviet Block nations. Reintroducing these tanks to front line service wouldn't be a logical choice considering the M1 outclasses all of them outstandingly (even the base model does), the M60A3 also serves valiantly in the mechanized divisions and will be upgraded to the standard above in order to expand its service life.

In my opinion not that it matters but Egypt should look at into either China T-98G/T-99 or russian T-91MS/S as an alternate to older tanks and further M1s, the M1s are pretty good in number at the moment.

Both the MBT's you've mentioned are inferior to the M1.
