Egypt started negotiating the UAE Mirage 2000-9 in 2015

The economic situation is frankly said " at the edge of Abyss".

Arms race can only function with a potent economy. Even Russia lowered its defence budget 25%.
Arguing with Hadids in a defence forum is mystic. Have a good day.

" لَتُـفْتَحَنَّ الْقُسْطَنْطِينِيَّةُ فَـلَنِعْمَ الْأَمِيرُ أَمِيرُهَا، وَ لَنِعْمَ الْجَيْشُ ذَلِكَ الْجَيْشُ"

It has to do with defence..the Hadith says: "they are the best soldiers on Earth.."
And what is "ذَلِكَ الْجَيْشُ", if not Arab Muslim armies..and the Turks were raised by them..

.
Thanks, bro. They've been rumoring this since 2010, TBH. We were talking about it on the other forum in 2009.

30 of the UAE Mirages are older frames from 1989 BTW, not that much of a leap from the current 18 in the EAF if you ask me. The 2000-9 & 9D are 32 units in the UAEAF, so they're not all the upgraded 9 version just to be clear.

It does make sense if they do opt for the additional 12 Rafales and then add these with a full upgrade so they can be at their fullest potential. That would make the count of the French birds in the EAF at a total of 104 with 36 of those as Rafales. That's an excellent position to be in and closer to what I would like to see the numbers at, given i would prefer a total of at least 80 Rafales and no Mirages, but this is the next best option I suppose.

Now they'll need to double the MiG-35 count to get to our projected numbers.

Updating aircraft fleet in cooperation with the United States

Al-Masri said in a statement to Sada Al-Balad that cooperation with the United States of America is a strategic cooperation and that cooperation does not stop. The Air Force has contracted "new protection systems for Egyptian aircraft" in cooperation with the United States of America. In coordination with Washington to modernize our aging fleet of fighter aircraft to become the latest "blocks", and raise the technical and combat capabilities to include the latest advanced weapon systems.

The Air Force Commander noted that "UAVs" carry out large tasks of the Air Force in various strategic directions and have a vital role to play in protecting the Egyptian national security system. We are also securing more than 5000 kilometers of borders across the country's various strategic directions.

I'm guessing they're referring the the F-16's and nothing to do with the Mirage 2k.

The latest advanced weapons? That means weapons like the AIM-9x etc. When they're talking about securing 5000 km of borders, they might even be referring to other precision ground munitions, besides all the GBU Paveways the EAF already has. If they end up supplying the EAF with the AIM-120C5 and the AIM-9x and whatever else they mean by "the latest advanced weapons," or even just the AIM-120 and nothing else, I will send you a birthday cake and a card with an apology in it. But if they don't...you're gonna owe me, bro! :-) I'd like to see them all get IFF sensors and interrogators.

Of course it is about the EAF F-16s.. it mentions the upgrades by he US.. this post was to confirm what I have told you about the F-16s upgrade and the latest weapon systems in another thread..
Egypt is making its own IFF sensors and interrogators.. I've read it may times in Egyptian military news..I think because they do not trust the original IFF on the US jets.. did you read about CISMOA and that Egypt did not sign it with the US..

They are talking about UAVs securing the surveillance of 5000 km of borders..

So, let's make a deal.. if this upgrades happen, we send gifts and cakes to the Egyptian Air Force Commander..

It was my polite way of saying to you that this is the Mirage 2K-9 thread, not the V-upgrade thread for the F-16. :-)

Well, seeing is believing, my friend. We know the EAF F-16's all have conventional IFF, just like any aircraft flying around the skies all over the world and the F-16 have several options with the conventional system from the 5 modes that exist in that system. They go through mode 1, 2, 3, C and 4. Mode 1 being basically specific to the squadron and relates to the aircraft's serial number and is set by the maintenance crew. Mode 2 identifies the pilot himself (not the aircraft) and he sets it himself every time he gets into the jet. Mode 3 is identical to civilian aircraft which operates by using transponders and it gives a 4 digit code when asked by either ground control or another aircraft. Mode C gives more detail as to the other aircraft's altitude for location and used more in that sense than actual friend or foe, location & altitude. Mode 4 is the most precise of the built-in IFF functions that come with all F-16s, but it's still not the advanced IFF (AIFF) that includes the actual sensors (bird shredders) on the nose of the aircraft and also uses the interrogator to send a signal and requests a specific signal return. It also has compatibility with the radar and the weapons systems on the aircraft which gives the pilot a lot of information quickly which gives him a quick and much easier reaction to a possible threat. It also lessens the chances of shooting a friendly bird. So it's the best of the IFF systems. We know the EAF F-16's have and use all the built-in modes, but they don't all have the AIFF. Only their last batch of 24 Block 52's have the AIFF as we've seen the obvious sensors. We haven't seen anything that resembles any type of homemade sensors to know for sure if they've built their own or installed them. Until we see some semblance of sensors/antennas, I can't help but remain skeptical that only the last batch of 52's have the AIFF.

did you read about CISMOA and that Egypt did not sign it with the US..

Of course, long time ago. Never could understand why they refused to sign it. There was never a valid reason since it really didn't require Egypt to give up any security as far as the fighters are concerned. What is more alarming is that the primary reason for signing the CISMOA is to agree on the US' strict rules of transfer of technology. Why on earth would the Egyptian army not want to assure the US that it would not give up or expose any of the important aspects or weapon's systems to other countries? There were other minor conditions that came with signing the CISMOA but sharing US made technology was the primary focus of that treaty which resulted in the denial of the AIM-120. They shot themselves in the foot. Granted there wouldn't have been any assurance that the US would've supplied Egypt with AMRAAMs, especially if Israel would've most likely jumped up and down complaining and tried to block it. But to outright refuse to sign it was inexplicable.

This is where they should devote a lot of resources on. We've been saying this for a very long time since it was very obvious 20+ years ago that unmanned aircraft technology was going to be the thing of the future. So much can be done with UAV's from recon/surveillance to combat to ECM & EW to decoy warfare and many other possibilities. I hope they really invest in this technology aspect and get going with domestic applications. I know they've started on that a while ago but they really need to step it up further, beyond ToT with other nations.

So, let's make a deal.. if this upgrades happen, we send gifts and cakes to the Egyptian Air Force Commander..

Screw that! You or I deserve them more than him. lol

Well, people started talking about the Rafale in this thread, so Talking about the F-16 upgrades was not out of context since we are talking about the EAF in general.. I just did not remember where we talked about this, but i found the source and thought it would add some credibility to the upgrades and mainly the most recent weapon systems!

I will try to find some sources on the Egyptian made IFF sensors and systems, since I have read it many times..

The CISMOA also asks for strict inspection of all US weapons sold at anytime, in surprise inspections, meaning your bases must always be open to US inspections anytime of their choosing! remember the 67' deceit by the US and the open hostilities in 73!? Egypt can not trust anyone with its airforce.. mainly..

Well, the EAF have stated that they have started to use the UAV for border surveillance and more.. it is a good step IMO.. better late than never..

20:45, 18 June 2006 (UTC) I don't know what other countries have. All my experience has been in US, NATO systems. Someone from those countries will have to write about it. I am aware of the cross-band interrogation mode, because Egypt had to modify their F-16's so they would work with both Soviet and NATO IFF systems. I suspect that Egypt has now decommissioned its CBI transponders, as they should have modern avionics upgrades by now, both in the air and on the ground.

"Cross band interrogation mode," very cool. I think we suspected they had to do something like that to create an IFF that's shared among all the different platforms, especially the old Soviet and Chinese ones, so it makes sense. And this is back in the mid 90's. Now it should be much easier with the new MiG-35's and the Rafales. Thanks for the link, bro. :-)
