CAIRO: President Muhammad Mursi will visit Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, his first foreign visit as Egypt’s head of state, Saudi Ambassador Ahmed Qattan said on Saturday.

Qattan made the announcement after his meeting with President Mursi in Cairo to deliver a message from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and the King's invitation to visit the Kingdom.

Qattan's announcement was carried by the Saudi Press Agency, which said Mursi will also perform Umrah (minor Haj) during his state visit to the Kingdom.

The announcement was also carried by Egypt's official MENA news agency, which said King Abdullah “has invited President Mursi to visit Saudi Arabia to strengthen relations between both countries in all areas.”
It will be Mursi's first foreign trip since he was sworn in as president last week.

Mursi, a long-time member of the Muslim Brotherhood, is the country’s first elected civilian president.

Qattan said the visit would further contribute to enhancing relations between the two countries and the two leaderships. The coming phase is expected to witness an increase in the Saudi investments size in Egypt.

"Relations between the two countries could not be confined to only economic cooperation. They are far more than that," he added.

Qattan confirmed that the Saudi investments as well as the trade exchange increased in Egypt and not lowered during the post-revolution. The number of Egyptian workers in the Kingdom has also augmented from an estimated 1.5 million before the revolution to 1.650 million in the current time, he said.

I guess lot of ppl are placing too much hope on Mursi, same as they did with Obama. I say first let him deliver and then make a fan following

The hope is derived from the change in guard after 60 long years of Military rule that curbed the Islamist ideology of majority Egyptians. The change is really huge yet it is a beginning of long troubled journey.
