Egypt may increase the number of Rafale in the air force to more than 72 fighters in the future

I do really hope India makes a follow up order too. It will help take the price of the Rafale down and would make it easier and encourage other countries that already purchase it to make follow up orders.

It will happen, but it will take a couple of years at least for sure. Right now, given the Covid crisis, the focus is on dealing with it and restoring some order of normalcy. And the IAF is still in the process of accepting Rafales from Dassault. Once they are fully integrated with the IAF and there is some experience built up with the type, a follow on order is likely.

I don't expect the IAF's MRFA contest for 114 fighters to lead to anything. So 36 or more Rafales will very likely be it.

Great move by Egypt. Rafale is a true 4.5+ generation fighter jet.

100 Rafale
218 F16s
44 Mig29
60 Su35
422 4th generation planes is a lethal airforce.

They need to retire F4s Mig23 Mig21 J6 J7s Mirages to save
Then concentrate on the 5th generation.

I think everyone knew this was coming. They just love that aircraft and apparently it really has some capabilities as far as EW and with the Meteor missile, it should be a game changer. And the pilots are trained in France by French pilots and so this is a whole new generation and process. But I don't think they'll reach 100 TBH. Somewhere around 72 - 80 or so.

And I believe the F-16 number due to attrition, accidents, retired aircraft etc. is around 196.
Current order for Su-35 is around 30 so maybe another batch if they really like the way she blends into the new, combined data sharing network.

The MiG-29/35 are the ones I think they should really increase their numbers to eventually replace the F-16s. That would be something I would certainly consider.

Those are pretty much all retired except for the Mirage 2000s. But I think the count of available and flyable aircraft might be around 10, and that would be amazing in itself. The Typhoons would be a perfect replacement only bought through Italy.
