The Russian government is discussing with its Egyptian counterpart the supply of new defense systems to the Egyptian military. Moscow has offered Egypt to acquire the latest Russian systems, the S-400.

Specifications of the "S-400":

The S-400 air defense missile system is designed to destroy electronic jamming aircraft, reconnaissance, radar detection and remote control aircraft, , spy planes, strategic and tactical aircraft, tactical ballistic missiles, ballistic missiles, medium range ballistic missiles and all means of Current and future air and aerospace attacks .

Will the "S-400" protect the skies of Egypt?

The S-400 system can be equipped with 5 types of missiles with different missions and targets. The "40N6 6" missile came as the latest model, complementing the system. The missile is used to destroy important and complex targets, including remote radar detection and enemy stealth aircraft, at a distance of 400 kilometers.

The S-400 anti-air missile system, unlike the predecessor S-300BM, has the ability to destroy all types of air targets, including winged missiles flying very low along the ground, small unmanned aircraft and even destruction of Ballistic missiles warheads with a speed of up to 5000 meters per second. No other system can compete with it.

The S-400 is the most advanced in the world and is capable of handling all types of warplanes, including the famous stealth aircraft. The system was designed in the "Almaz - Antey" company . The Russian army began receieving the S-400 systems from August 2007, when the first battalion equipped with these systems began its combat duty on the outskirts of Moscow.

Now US get to examine the system much closer, and prepare for counter measures ..but its still a dangerous SAM, wonder who it will be used against ?

Naaaah, USA has much better chances of examining the system in India. Russia itself is making S-500 so they are not so much bothered by that either.

Israel ? you sure ? Egypt has no conflict with Israel and with US grip on Egypt .. i don't see that happening in next 1-2 decade .. but S-400 is still one of the best and will be mostly used SAM, finding a way to counter it will help US in case of any Conflict with Russia .

I assume that Russians would have taken this into consideration right? After all they are selling it.

I am sure they did, but look how US is careful , they still don't let Chinese or Russians near their F-16 Block 52's ..but if Russians are already working on S-500 than obviously it wont effect them much , but other countries will .

Well it's something for Russians to worry. We both don't know the full picture right? However it is not that easy. Furthermore, USA already has pretty potent ADS and BMDS. USA is paranoid but all of its technology has been leaked. F35 has been replicated by Chinese in the form of J-31.

not to undermine the Chinese here, but they still have a lot to catch up .. US tech is still by far most superior but the Pace Chinese are catching up, they are on par with Russian's , probably better than Russian in some aspects ..

So even American's won't be able to copy the exact S-400 as nobody will hand them over the design folder. Russians have different mentality. China has copied most of the Russian tech and perhaps adding its own touch too. I guess China will not take more than two decades to get on par with Russia/USA in most of the technologies given the pace stays the same.

its not about Copying brother, its about understanding the System, and its complexities and creating counter measures ..

In technical jargon we call it reverse-engineering and this is a full discipline and it is one of the best way to start and catch up with the world. There is nothing derogatory about it. All the countries do that. USA copied (reverse engineered) German V-2, airplanes, U-boats etc etc. Japan did the same. The fundamental principle behind it is "not to reinvent the wheel" however there is a fine line between copying and reverse engineering. Copying is done without fully understanding the principles and making an exact replica though normally it won't have similar performance or quality as original while in reverse engineering, the engineers and scientists try to understand the design and working principle and then applying it to their own product. For example, JF17 is not a copy of F-16 but it has elements that have been inspired by F-16 and other airplanes. That is why it has its distinctive look, configuration and performance characteristics. Same goes for J-31 and other products. While copies are the counterfeit products that are apparently exact replicas of the well known brands and sometimes when sold under the same or similar names. For example, indian film industry copying Pakistani music blatantly.
However it has a drawback that I may explain later.

What US grip on Egypt, actually it has no grip at all.. it has just decided to lower the $1,300 billion military aid by $300 million, and economic aid by $50 million, because of that..While Usrael is still getting almost $4 billion in military aid!

The US won't have access to the S-400 from Egypt, because the latter has an equal strategic relation with Russia as it does with the US, if not more nowadays..
