China's Xinhua news agency reported that during the Zhuhai Airshow 2016, Egypt has ordered the modification of its China-made Unmanned armed reconnaissance Wing Loong UAVs, to integrate the Synthetic Aperture Radar SAR and the Moving Target Indicator MTI model YJ-203.

The Ku-Band radar has a high accuracy of observation and monitoring of up to 0.5 meters, has a range of 25 km and can cover an area of 1,800 km² in one hour. It can cover an area of 7,500 km2 using a the Track moving targets pattern, where it can monitor and track any targets moving at a speed of more than 20 km / h.

Egypt requested the installation of Synthetic Aperture Radar SAR on the Wing Loong aircraft because of its microwave imaging capability, which allows extensive surveying of the full topographic terrain, high-resolution electronic mapping, IED detection and roadside mines Which pose a major threat to counterterrorism forces, by comparing images taken at different times to the same sector of the road. Its Moving Target Indicator MTI is also used to distinguish vehicles from fixed targets such as trees and hills, which allows for their elimination.

This new capability introduced by the Egyptian Air Force on its Wing Loong unmanned aircrafts allows the armed forces in general to improve the capabilities in reconnaissance, aerial surveying, intelligence and information gathering in the operations theatre to support the combat capabilities of the units during the typical and asymmetric war.

Fantastic. Thanks for posting all these awesome and informative threads, SC, bro.

Depending on the cost of the new Wing Loong II UCAV, they should consider purchasing at least another squadron of them to add to the current one since they're getting tremendous use out of these. The amount of Cretin Crunching missions they've executed using the Wing Loong is impressive, to say the least. What a terrific platform, and a Chinese built one that seems to be quite close to the caps of the US-built Predator is good business & strategy by the EAF. They made the perfect decision by selecting this thing and now the Chinese can use all the vast amount of success the Egyptian Armed Forces have had with this UCAV to promote sales beyond China's imagination. They way they've used these on the Western border is absolutely terrific. And the number of missions they've performed is staggering. Listening to Sisi talk about how many verminial vehicles have been sploshed by these aerial predators is actually scary. They'll most likely use the new airbase they're building near Marsa Matruh to fly these out of. Also another great way to reduce the cost of flying the expensive jets.

The EAF should also do the same with the MiG-35 ASAP as well as the Ka-52. Get both platforms out as soon as they're ready and show off the success of these aircraft so that it helps in promoting them for the OEM and in turn, it helps the EAF with possible future acquisitions. All at the cost of the subhuman cretins, nothing would be better than that.

I hope Egypt will start making the Wing Loong..even if it is the first version like it is now with these important additions..it is not too much for Egypt to localise the production.. but it still depends on the numbers needed I guess..
