Egypt and Jordan agree to rebuild Syria and Iraq

Cairo and Amman have agreed on joint industrial cooperation for the reconstruction of Syria and Iraq, which have been largely destroyed by the years-long war.

The agreement was announced by Egyptian Minister of Industry Tariq Qabeel in special remarks for "Day Seven" from Jordan during the work of the High Joint Committee between Egypt and Jordan.

A recent World Bank report revealed that the total loss of the Syrian economy is estimated at $ 226 billion. The report said about 27% of housing units were destroyed or partially damaged by the war.

International institutions have estimated the cost of rebuilding Iraq's war-damaged areas at
$ 100 billion

Many countries and companies have begun to contemplate the reconstruction phase and the huge projects to be built in Syria and Iraq, despite the continuation of the war.

The rebuilding of Iraq will come through a process of Iraqi gov asking support from western/global powers, who then will also 'push' the GCC to give funds. Jordan and Egypt do not have that money.

The war isn't finished. ISIS still controls significant territory and the last parts of an insurgency are the worst as the losers have nothing left to lose anymore. Plus the Syria war is more than about ISIS. Al Nusra and the other rebel groups still exist. Don't understand why "rebuilding" understandings are taking place now.

I'm wondering what Syria has to offer,especially if Assad doesn't go but Iraqi oil reserves will allow it to take 15 20 years loans to rebuild the country.

Likely it won't all be loans but investment to gain influence, that's something the Gulf states want to do.

The problem is that they don't work long hours in Iraq, they don't work hard at all to start with. That's the problem in the entire middle east. Vacations are extremely long, working hours are short. They won't manage to build an economy that provides professional services with such a mindset, not even for domestic jobs given the incompetence. Relying on oil is guaranteed failure.

Either way I think it will not be only a US or GCC effort but rather a global financial plan given that IS is a threat to the world.

Construction expertise isn't something you need to look far to find, let me tell you that Egypt and Jordan cannot do much in this case, both are poor.

Ok, they agreed on joint cooperation. But the output of their joint efforts is far from reaching requirements.

For Mosul reconstruction there will be some key players aside from Baghdad gov. Turkey will likely participate largely in reconstruction given their geographical closeness and having many construction companies. Funding will come from the GCC, G20 states along with other organizations.

Baghdad will fulfill its governing requirements which are part of sustaining the gains, Turkey will make money, GCC will gain influence in Baghdad through funding. Everyone habby.

You're right about Turkey and her involvement in the Iraqi construction sector. There was a Western report claiming that Turkey will probably earn more than 100 billion USD from reconstruction contracts in Syria and Iraq. Erbil is basically build by Turkish companies if I recall correctly.
