I shall explain my thoughts and why I believe there is an opportunity here should Pakistan be able to seize it.You see for me the issue is that Indian politicians are openly saying that farmer protest is because of Pakistan. The way I see it, there is a strong channel of communication between Indian political hierarchy and UK government. That can only be possible with the Indian origin people occupying very sensitive posts in UK cabinet. Someone is whispering a lot of non sense in Boris ears, he is not this stupid.
It sounds to me like a rehearsed response that he meant for questions about Kashmir protests but accidentally used it in the wrong context.
Yes, generally speaking there's a definite huge problem, because clearly this rehearsed response will come out every time Kashmir human rights issues are mentioned - this is what Patel etc have instructed him on. Nevertheless there is an opportunity here.
Specifically, this gaffe has actually damaged Delhi's stupid narrative that Pakistan is behind the farmers' protests because the entire house of Commons is left baffled as to what Pakistan has to do with it. It will be extremely difficult now to push this narrative through for Patel etc.
Ideally, Boris should be pressed to clarify his remarks. Pakistan should officially protest at this and force Boris to explain what he was trying to say. This would be an excellent move for Pakistan because Boris will be forced to answer in one of two ways:
(1) he will admit it was a gaffe and publicly absolve Pakistan of any involvement, countering Indian narratives and embarrassing India.
(2) he may try to justify his comments that Pakistan is involved in the farmers' protests, which will firstly enrage the Sikhs who will ridicule Boris for persisting with his conspiracy theory. Boris would be ridiculed by the entire House of Commons and Sikh MPs would demand to know where he is getting such information, which could be embarrassing for the pro-Modi clique in his cabinet. Moreover, Pakistan should immediately demand evidence of such an accusation, which Boris will not be able to provide.
I honestly hope Pakistan and the Sikh MPs push Boris on this, and do not let it go.
