Economically unviable: Metro Bus - a white elephant painted red!

Tell me you are not a Tabdeeli Razakar!
I will tell you that i am not blinded by love for PTI or PMLN, to me what is wrong is WRONG. Tell me that privatizing half of the institution and then starting new ones that will be paid for from government funding, TO RUN, is what best this government can do? tell me HONESTLY, the metro bus was the only thing that would have helped general public or was it the ONLY thing that would have helped the general public with a QUICK pay back to government in term of votes? Tell me that if we can think about anything? say anything at all just being a Pakistani or does it always have to be a PTI or PMLN or PPP supporter in us who is talking?

From functional perspective

A Metro service that runs every 10-15 minutes is same level as a Metro Train

The trains may operate long term however the Buses will give you good 10 years of service

If the turkish company is doing the maintaining work , I am sure the buses will be kept in high order

I am also looking forward to PTI metro project in KPK so there is a means to compare the two services

Should be financed by Bahria town.

I don't see an incentive for Bahria in doing so here.

In KHI they wanted to connect the city and the workforce to their location plus name recognition.

If the turkish company is doing the maintaining work , I am sure the buses will be kept in high order

I am also looking forward to PTI metro project in KPK so there is a means to compare the two services


In Kolkata,India interval is 5 min in rush hour. Sunday 15 min.

There is no point in running buses on subsidy when you are think to privatize you BIGGEST institutes. I hope no other such project is started and government gets its priorities straight and invest in sectors in most need of government support and funding.

India doesn't want BRT System anymore, as it is already running and Making Metros mostly in every major city as of now. Which is much more economical and can carry much load and is faster. Also the Bus services are already so expanded it doesn't need a dedicated system. If you see delhi they already have a well running system of Green and Red buses, also now they started tourism buses HOP ON and HOP OFF. If you want we can compare the Indian Metro stations here :) btw this is Ahemdabad BRT

I know India doesn't need any BRT but focusing Making Metro Trains well Pakistan it's a different story... don't have much fund + shortage of Energy if these buses will fulfill the needs till some extent you can say 10 years or so... after that all you gonna do is lay the tracks and wire for Metro Train (light Rail) you don't have to build new tracks elevated portion elevated station with elevators and escalators will be there

Plus Lahore will have Metro by Chinese assistant work will start soon

Plus these A/C buses are also running in Lahore




As designers point of view, Elevated BRT was a waste of Money, also the High end stations which are just bus Stands to be precise were not needed to be made out of Granite, as they will handle hardly 1000 people a day (Per station) Instead BRT should be on the ground and the roads should have been elevated, which creates much more space for 4 Wheelers, and make the footpaths more viable

If Pakistan could make Elevated BRT's it could have made Metros too, which are more reliable, economical, cater more people too. @Muhammad Omar It wouldn't be so viable to make such High end station which won't cater more than 2000-3000 People, instead you should compare Indian metro stations if you want to :)

Well Lahore will have Metro Train soon named as Orange line Metro train + there are more 4 trains planned for Lahore Green Orange Purple Blue line metro trains + Red which is now are buses later it will be train... As NESPAK and other companies present a report to Gov after completion of Metro tracks that it can be converted into Metro too in Future :) :) :)

plus please do check the Dollar rates of India And Pakistan the budget of this project was in rupees not dollars

now length of white elephant is 22.6 km i.e., $450 m/22.6 = $ 20m/km

and it's route is elevated which can be converted into Train track without and destruction....
only 8.6 km is elevated 14 km is on ground = white elephant :taz:

when in futureeeeeeeeeeee it willllllllllllll beeeeeeeeeee converted into Train track without and destruction .......the white elephant will then become white fat elephant:D

If we look at big picture

If 70% population in city uses buses for travel , it reduces the need to purchase Petrol for Motor bikes, mini vans and suzuki pick ups

So there is ample fuel remaining.

Also there is benefit of less cars on the road and lowering of pollution

So while the projects are subsidized the money is not high like in billions , its in millions


Students: Save money and reach universities
Workers: Reach work on time and with less money spent
Families : Travel in air conditioned buses saving huge funds to bread winner


The benefits of the Metro Project exist that is not doubtful !!!


The focus should be
a) To keep it running for 10 years
b) Ensure subsidies are replaced by gradual improvement in fares and more busies so 90% pf people travel in buses



The biggest improvement in Metro project is
"DEPENDABLE " rides that arrive and leave on time!!!


One does not just needs Trains , you can achieve same results by running buses


Provided the Management companies manages the arrival and depature of buses on time

i think you don't know there's Lahore metro Bus running from 3 years now poor you.... laugh all you want don't know shit about Pakistan and replying like as an Expert :D :D

There is no point in running buses on subsidy when you are think to privatize you BIGGEST institutes. I hope no other such project is started and government gets its priorities straight and invest in sectors in most need of government support and funding. Projects such a Metro or the orange train etc should either be financially viable or should be run by private sector.


If we get into details, what is the biggest advantage of mass transit systems or public transport? for us, one of the biggest advantage is that EXCELLENT public transport means that everyone of us wont be burning fuel, i-e DOLLARS for Pakistan, whenever we are going out. If we get good transportation we may start using it resulting in easing the load on government that need to pay for the oil imports. NOW, if that transport system is being funded/subsidized by over 50% in running costs what are we saving? Nothing! The current financial situation of our country and thus our government do not allow us to invest in such projects, rather we should invest in things that will in return generate revenues. Like improving the railways as they are doing, bringing reforms in steel mills to get it running, shipping corporation, there are countless opportunities that should come on top of priority as they will not only be good for people but will not be costing government some running cost per month rather will generate money.
