ECC approves firing all Pakistan Steel Mill employees

The sad truth is that Pakistan has the innate capacity to be a top 10 manufacturer/exporter of auto-parts, pharma drugs, surgical tools, circuit boards, etc. It can also tap into its coal to manage domestic energy needs, and rather than rely on petrol, flip to EVs (using the coal-powered infrastructure) and balance the carbon.

But how can you get to that point when people are so stuck up the rear of party loyalty or just sheer stupidity that they won't talk real economics, real industry, real business, real defence, etc?

There is a direct correlation between the murder of merit based hiring and promotion system and wrecking of pretty much everything in Pakistan.

There is a reason why where ever we look it looks like decision were taken by a bunch of retarded apes.

Therefore the firings. BTW, the neo-liberal cronies have actually delivered on putting a man into space. How about that.

Every technological part in the space craft and space stations was discovered/invented on the basis of some kind of outcome from a scientific/engineering research done in a state funded research institution in Europe and USA in the last 200 years.

First he opposed privatisation of the steel mills under PMLN, then tried to privatise them himself when PTI came to power.

He claimed that if PTI won, he would improve management and the steel mills will start to perform. Now he's laid off thousands of employees and steel mills remain closed.

Wah IK! At least you have been consistent with your u-turns.

And he did PIA is in profit now. From past 5 years employees of steel mill getting paid without any production and now 3 years of salary will also be given majority of them are political worker. he is doing what he should do for the country this is what we want to see. Take decision which is good for our country even if it's hurts his own past views. . Imagine 440 crore rupees if I am correct in past 5 years without any productivity to steel mill employees. Why burden poor nation for these employees? these 440 crore rupees could be use somewhere else.

Remember, Mifta ismaeil was giving SteelMill for free.

Difference between state funded and state run, which is the issue here.

All research institutes in Europe that are funded by state are also run by state. Even all major local transport, local garbage collection, local electricity distribution corporations, schools and universities etc. are all state run in Germany yet they are very efficient. Because as I said it is not the business, it is the man behind the business that matters.

The governments/establishments in third world countries like Pakistan are always looking for miracles and shortcuts to become developed out of no where. But that is not how the rules of the game were set by the countries that brought all the industrial revolution in this world whose benefits every third world country is enjoying despite having zero contribution in its buildup during the last 200 to 300 years.

"‘the economy is important because we care about the poor and the poor should be fired because we care about efficiency which will improve the economy for the poor "

You're now comparing Germany to Pakistan. Apple and oranges comparison.

About time, the redundancy pay is far too much though. 6 months salary max. No wonder everyone is clambering for a govt job in PK, look at the perks. Been paid for years to work in a mill that wasn't operating, now getting 2-3 years salary to quit that job. Just once in my life i want a job like that.

Funny thing is those people who are criticizing the government for this decision do not even provide an alternate solution.

So what should the government do? Keep the mill closed and keep paying the employee salaries till all of them retire? Or try and sell the mill with 10,000 employees when the total employable workforce is hardly 1000? Who in their right mind would buy such a mill? Or run it at severe loss where it's expenses are far greater than the revenue it can earn? What should the government do? It's easy to criticize everything why not give a solution? The thread has been running for 9-10 pages with poster after poster crying as if they themselves have lost their jobs yet not one solution to the issue.

That's like you going to buy a car and the dealer sells you car with the body rusted, severe engine misfiring and no wheels. Would you buy such a car?

Bhai aqal ki baat kiya karo. Parh likh gaye ho leken ta'aleem hasil nahi ki hai.

Well Hello there,

What you see here guys is a tottering government laying off her burdens. The egoistic and thoroughly corrupt judiciary will create hurdles in the process with the help of PML-N and PPP. We will again, be left with a steel mill for which the tax payers will pay the wages for 9000 persons while the mill does not produce sh!t.

If there is a person living in Pakistan who truly guards the national security of the country, should make sure that the steel mill is destroyed/given away at scrap rate. Some PDF members who say they can refurbish the machines to re-set the mills to start making profit, you are not the first champion to think of such a brilliant Idea.

The system of power in Pakistan which involves the Establishment, Bureaucracy, Judiciary and Parliament (sorted by strongest to weakest) will not allow for any major development that involves making progress. If parliament does something, constructive, it will be shot down by the judiciary or the establishment. If the judiciary does something, they will be shot down by the establishment, if the Bureaucrat makes a decisions to sell off useless machinery and lay off workers, he will be called by NAB or the judiciary.

In light of all the Cluster-Fukc that has become Pakistan, it would be a good decision to destroy/obliterate/sell the mill so that a private firm can induct new persons and buy new machinery and start from scrap. The 550 billion can be avoided if you declare a fukcing bankruptcy and sell all assets to the lender. They can auction it to a reasonable private industrialist who knows how to run a business.

The thread has been running for 9-10 pages with poster after poster crying as if they themselves have lost their jobs yet not one solution to the issue.

But that would require too much brain power and too much innovation.
