What's new

East Pakistan loss was a Political not a Military failure, says COAS

I agree Farsi would have been ideal but Bengalis would have still opposed it, with Arabic they might have been deterred due to the religious angle.

100%, he was the original proto typical poster child of the Mil-establishment.

Let me make first thing clear: Bangladesh acted in 1971, as per Indians strategy.
Now we Pakistan are good as we are. We tried our best to tell Bengalis the true face of Indians and their plan to de-stabilize Pakistan. The funny thing which happened was: Bengalis didn’t merge back with India, lol.
Bangladesh is now a separate country, we respect its decision for separation and it is better that Bangladesh stays that way. We Pakistanis have a peace of mind after 1971, now we don’t need to explain every dirty indian trick to Bengalis “a wise enemy is better than a fool friend”.

Why make a foreign language the national language instead of adopting the languages of people? There are many countries with multiple national languages: e.g., Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, Singapore, India.
Because of religious cohesion perspective, ethnic nationalists might have been cautious opppsing the "devine" arabic. If Israelis could resurrect a dead language and make disparate nationalities from around the world learn it and adopt it, the same could have been emulated in Pakistan.

There is a big difference in the demographics of 1947 era Israelis and Pakistanis. Israel probably had 100% literacy already and a highly educated population. Pakistan was still a developing country with low literacy rate. It would have been nearly impossible to switch a large new country to a foreign language. You might have had better luck with English as many people knew that (Happened in Singapore).

I don't know how Israel does all this, their level of indoctrination is on another level. Literally brought people from Europe and all over, and revived a nearly dead identity.

Also a lot of them will celebrate under videos of children crying about dead family after being striked, etc, and they'll laugh and cheer. Personally seeing that I wouldn't be able to cheer even for people I hate.

It was a political military and moral loss for Pakistan.

Immoral because they denied Bengalis their earned election victory and also had their own military commit genocide of the very people that the military swore to serve.

Political failure because instead of dealing with a strong multi racial population and opposition (Mujib) the country succumbed to racial discrimination

Military failure ofcourse is well documented.

All of which are why the middle aged andn older Pakistanis view history very differently than the younger ones.

The contents of this thread amply demonstrate that how this traitor Mir Bajwa successfully diverted the attention of people, from his treasonous misdeeds, to a literally dead issue. 😃😃

How do you guys think 1971 would've panned out had Pakistan had nukes? 🤔

Literacy has nothing to do with it, large parts of Pakistan were more illiterate then compared to now and even they adopted a language which was alien to them, i.e. urdu.

Plus large percentage of Jewry in Israel is of the middle eastern background and no even they weren't all literare.

The outcome would've been the same . No country might've ever retained a culturally alien part located across an enemy 7 times stronger. It was deliberately planned by the birstishers to give indians a psychological edge to ultimately pitch them against China.

I would argue it was an economic one.

Such a large piece of pie was taken from army.

Family regrets that till date

Fact is you are Brian washed..

India had little to do with first part. It was what you are seeing now..the difference was it was much more bloodier and uglier and ultimately India just took advantage of the situation as any enemy should

Don't blame Bengalis for what happened from 1947-1971

If you have to prove two nation theory wrong, then find a nation that has Muslims in the 30% - 70% range and non-Muslims in 70%-30% range, that is stable and peaceful. Jinnah's genius was in identifying this principle which was later explored fully by Huntington. Jinnah is the forerunner of the concept for which Huntington is credited today.

India after 2014. Largely peaceful, with the odd communal riot. But quickly controlled and subdued.

The mess started when urdu was decided for them.way before.
Sir... don't blame on Quaid..
There is not a single silver bullet. There were many factors which culminated in 1971. The language was a minor and political issue. Main was power sharing. We have given far more rights in 18th amendments than Mujib asked in his points. That was the main thing.
We have UP bureaucracy who was not fond of Biharis and Bengalis since ages. The divide grew massively.
Please listen to this. Also at 1:22:25
Please spare Quaid stature and decision from this discussion to save your likings. He was famous leader and perhaps can infuse Urdu in east Pakistan too.

lastly, Military was afraid that if Mujib comes to power, PM, he will bring Bengali bureaucracy and officers. Neither Bhutto nor Yaha wanted that.

No it was not...ask the bengalis here on the forum.
Secondly the urdu speaking bureaucracy over them just added fuel to fire.

Main was power sharing.
That issue didn't suddenly come up in 71 or even In 60s.. we got after first constitution in 1956 that late after 8 years because begalis didn't agree on constitution.. and the 56 one also got rejected later.
The sort of autonomy they wanted would have been unfair to the other ethnic groups of Pakistan.. they proclaimed themselves as the biggest ethnic group of country and wanted a role accordingly. That's included bengali as national language and their own choice for constitution

I'm not blaming jinnah..jinnah did the right thing.
