Earthquake in Pakistan! 23rd October, 2009

Five minutes ago, there was an earthquake in Pakistan. I felt the earthquake at my house in Lahore. I could feel my house shaking furiously! Early reports suggest that it was a 6.2 on the Richter scale.

Yes it was really scary! Even for Lahore, the shock waves were way too strong. The ground was furiously shaking. Everyone came out of their houses in the middle of the night. The jolts were much furious in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, specially the north.

6.4 on the Richter scale. Entire NWFP, Punjab, and some parts of Baluchistan were able to feel the earthquake. Reports are coming in that this is the strongest earthquake felt in Pakistan since 2005.

ISLAMABAD: Strong jolts of earthquake have been felt in parts of Punjab and NWFP.

According to Geo News, strong jolts of earthquake have been felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mansehra, Peshawar, Khyber Agency and other adjacent areas at 01:53 AM.

According to Met office Islamabad, intensity of earthquake has been registered 6.5 on the Richter scale.

No damage has yet been reported, however tremors spread panic in the public and a large number of people have come out of their houses.

According to sources an aftershock measuring 6.0 on Richter scale has been forecasted within next hour.

just checked one news channel. they are saying more jolts are expected within an hour. so be cautious guys. hope all of you are safe.

Somebody said the epicenture is Afghanistan so likely the far northeast near the Wakhan corridor area maybe. Speculating. I worry for Chitral, south to bajaur and across the border. It's getting to winter and if they're in trouble up there it'll be tough.

I also felt it in lahore, it lasted for approximately 20 second became severe in the end.

i spent a couple of hours outside in the open, i called my neighbours, who were sleeping with their kids, to come out as more after shocks were expected.

its epicentre was in the hindu kush range about 180 Kms deep in the earth and it was not in afghanistan, rather, at afghan pakistan border.

furthermore, it may not be so much towards north it should be around down somewhere because its severity was felt in punjab strongly.
