Just on the phone with my mother right now after you posted this, she said the building shook a bit. So far we don't know if there's damage. My mum said it just lasted a second or two, they were sat in the balcony having some tea :)

Hope your family stays safe. :)

It seems to have been felt in many places. Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

Nahh, building won't get damaged over something like that, rest assured. Most you get will be the plaster cracks over the bricks.

It might have get damaged if you can't stand still because of the shaking, and if it lasts like 30-45 second.

Earthquakes are rare in Egypt as i understand.

Happy that everyone is safe. The last thing the Arab world needs currently are natural disasters!

I guess that the earthquake must have been felt in nearby Hijaz too then considering that both Egypt and Gaza/Sinai are nearby.

Earthquakes are more common in KSA than Egypt and Palestine due to having more mountainous terrain (especially Hijaz and the Southern regions of KSA) but nothing compared to what Turkey and Iran face, have faced and are at risk of facing. Or for that matter Pakistan.

This must have been a small earthquake. Less than 5.0 at the Richter scale.

Check this webpage out guys;

I cannot post links yet (for some reason) but search on "earthquakes right now" on Google and you will enter a webpage called earthquake.usgs.gov and see a earthquake map from today. It seems that the epicenter was East of Crete so it makes sense that it was felt in both Northern Egypt and Gaza. Probably in Lebanon too and elsewhere in the region.
