By nature, shouldn't calamities that bring about so much death and destruction be attributed to Satan? The alternative being that the God people love and adore would callously throw away the lives of those that revere him.
This seems like an unusual instance where a calamity that could've caused so much people pain (gladly it didn't) ended up saving the girl.

According to biblical and related texts, Satan is nothing but a fallen angel- Lucifer. All it can do is entice people, like it did Eve with the apple. Rest of the deed(eating the apple) is done by the enticed/corrupted humans themselves. While the calamities like great flood, raining brimstone, pestilence, scourge of insects, hails etc(read the book of exodus) are clearly and can only be caused by divine intervention, as power to cause such is too great and can only be wielded by the most powerful. As to why he/she does it; according to the books it depends on context. Depending upon how you look at it, Satan is but a scapegoat.

Anyway, we digress, lets get back to the topic of thread.

Nope, it is 700th case since 2015 in the same city. 12th is rape with murder.
