Pakistan offered earthquake aid

More than 3,000 are feared dead and thousands have been hurt
Pakistan has begun to receive offers of financial aid and emergency assistance in the aftermath of the powerful earthquake that struck on Saturday.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz appealed for financial help and rescue workers to free people from the rubble.

A number of European countries, as well as the European Union, the United Nations and the United States, have offered immediate assistance.

India, which was also affected by the earthquake, has offered its help too.

"While parts of India have also suffered from this unexpected natural disaster, we are prepared to extend any assistance with rescue and relief which you may deem appropriate, " Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said.

Immediate offers

The UN team is sending a team of workers to Islamabad to set up a "coordination and evaluation team" for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

The European Union has offered Pakistan emergency aid and funds saying it could release money immediately if needed.

The UK has announced an initial aid package of $177,000 and a 60-strong medical and rescue team.

The French government said it was sending a 25-member emergency rescue team along with sniffer dogs.

Turkey, which has suffered major earthquakes in the past, said it had sent two military planes carrying aid, doctors and rescue workers.

The Irish government pledged one million euros ($1.2m) to assist with immediate needs such as food, shelter and other basic requirements.

A number of other countries including Germany and Greece have also offered help.

China sends aid to earthquake-hit Pakistan

The Chinese government on Sunday offered an emergency aid worth US$6.2 million to help earthquake victims in Pakistan.

The first batch of disaster relief materials is expected to arrive in Islamabad at 5:00pm local time, according to the Chinese Commerce Ministry.

China also sent a 49-member international rescue team Sunday morning to Pakistan. The team, headed by China Seismological Bureau deputy director Zhao Heping, was composed of 49 rescuers, medical staffs and seismological experts.

This was the fourth international rescue team that China had sent abroad since 2003, Xinhua news agency said.

On Saturday, Chinese President Hu Jintao sent a message of condolences to his Pakistani counterpart Pervez Musharraf over the massive earthquake.

Hu, on behalf of the Chinese government and people and in his own name, offered his condolences, through Musharraf, to the victims' families and the injured, and expressed deep grief over those who were killed in the disaster.

Premier Wen Jiabao and Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing also extended condolences to their Pakistani counterparts Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri over the deadly earthquake.

Abu Dhabi Police rescue team heads to Pakistan :cheers:

Abu Dhabi, 8 Oct. 05 (WAM) - In keeping with the directives of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, a rescue team from the Abu Dhabi Police left to Pakistan to take part in the search and rescue operations for missing people following the devastating earthquake that hit Pakistan early today.

Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, ordered formation of the team which is headed by Colonel Khalid Abdulatif Al Dossary, Director of Rescue and Aid Department at Abu Dhabi Police.

A K9 unit will also accompany the highly trained team members who pledged to do their best to rescue survivors of the quake.

Turkey has sent search-and-rescue teams and humanitarian aid to Pakistan which was pounded by a Saturday morning's massive earthquake, Turkish Prime Ministry said on Sunday.

"Four planes of the Turkish Armed Forces have left for the quake-stricken region, carrying 93 rescue workers and medical personnel, five transport vehicles, two ambulances, three sniffer dogs and aid equipment, medicine and foodstuff," said a statement issued by the Prime Ministry's Directorate General of Emergency Management.

"A four-member search-and-rescue team has also left for the region to join efforts to find those still trapped under rubble," it added.

Turkish Red Crescent has also sent foodstuff, baby food and body bags to Pakistan. Its Director General Omer Tasli said on Sunday that the group would provide coordination among all relief organizations in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, aid group Lighthouse Association has sent an urgent humanitarian aid worth 100,000 US dollars to the quake-stricken region.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called his Pakistani counterpart Shaukat Aziz on Saturday, expressing sorrow over the losses and pledging help.

Alot of aid is being given to pakistan.Let's just hope that they can use it to save those people :PakistanFlag:

I was trying to phone Islamabad, but their system was down. So I had to call the cell of my cousin, he lives in margala towers. Fortunately he was away when the earth-quake came. He was saying that some part of the tower fell down. building next to it were standing. I was so relieved to hear this news & sad about some of my friends got killed there

Today, our mosque gathered around $2000 for earth quake relief and planning to send $20000 to Pakistan! :)

Goodness this is getting worst! I am sure there is a huge fraction of people who are badly injured may make this number more higher!

40,000 is at present I donno where it 'll go after few weeks !!!
