The EU will enforce tarrifs to offset the subsidies to ensure a level playing field with their own manufacturers.

Personally - the UK does not have much of a "mass market" car industry left at all now - most of it moved to the EU mainland and elsewhere - so the UK won't follow with tariffs - we dont have much left except 'a few low volume luxury marques or niche products' and most average brits will be happy to have the chinese taxpayers subsidise their next car ....

Chinese will earn money one way or another from EV. Either some will manufactured in China (like Tesla, Dacia Spring) or they will get components from China, like batteries. An example -

The Chinese have invested huge into ADAS tech, and that will be the next thing to watch out for. They will make that niche tech into commodity, an example -
In comparison, Tesla FSD costs around $12,000. It doesn't have to be as good as FSD, but even if it's near to that, who will compete against such prices?

It's only a matter of time until BYD takes over. Tesla will be the first victim as they are reliant on a Chinese battery, developed and manufactured by CATL.

Euro (and American) manufacturers will face significant difficulty competing against BYD. BYD is the global leader in EV's and it's not even their main product which are in-house batteries and semiconductors.

Now you are competing against a company that is a globally-recognized player in developing in-house semiconductors, batteries, and automotives. The whole supply chain is localized, backed by cheap & efficient Chinese labor, and easy domestic access to rare earth minerals which are a choke point for US/EU.

Trade sanctions are the only way to restrict Chinese EV inside US/EU, but then again, China holds those resources your local companies need to even have an equivalent product on the market.

Have I mentioned that China is the global leader in just about everything EV and batteries?

Until now I have just seen a single NIO in Germany. but beware, Chinese coming. I see new showrooms coming up. Lets tax them 100 percent. when Trump gets reelected he will tax chinese EVs 100 percent.
