I've watched the developments of that evening. Simple thing is there was a lot of restrained by police and if at some point demonstrators do not comply with what public authorities tell them to do (and they have a right to do so to maintain public order and safety), then one should not be surprised if at some point violence is used in order to enforce compliance (which, by law, the Police and military have the sole right to use).

This all was nothing (nothing!) compared to the police actions we/I saw as a teenager during the 1980s between police and squatters in Amsterdam.
