CANADA: Dual citizens and people who have immigrated to Canada can have their citizenship taken away, according to a new bill that went into effect last week in Canada.

The Canadian government has justified creating a two-tier citizenship system by saying it would counter the threat of “jihadi terrorism.”

The C-24 Bill could also easily be used against non-terrorists — for example a journalist who is convicted of a “terrorism offence” in another country for reporting on human rights violations by the government.

Under this law, the only Canadians who can never lose their citizenship are those born in the country and who do not have another nationality (and are not eligible to apply for another nationality).

Regardless of the crimes they may be accused of, these first-class citizens can never have their citizenship taken away. Meanwhile, Canadians with another nationality (and those who are eligible to obtain another nationality) now have second-class status, even if they were born in Canada. They can be stripped of their citizenship under Bill C-24.

Currently, citizenship can be taken away mainly on the basis of crimes that are considered threats to Canada’s national security, like terrorism or espionage, or demonstrations of disloyalty to Canada, like treason.

Legal experts warned, however, that the list of offences could lead to the removal of citizenship may be expanded in the future. Additionally, Bill C-24 punishes criminal activity with exile.

Further, the Canadian government seems to think that removing the judge improves the process, but it is argued that this makes the process unfair and likely unconstitutional.

The new Bill C-24 has turned millions of Canadians into second-class citizens with reduced rights and as a result, the value of Canadian citizenship has been reduced.

. . .
Useless law. A terrorist could just burn his other country's passport and renounce his other country's citizenship. That's what all people form sharia4uk, sharia4france, sharia4belgium etc have done.

Why would anyone be worried of loosing dual citizenship!!!

because when you lose the second citizenship you are not allowed to buy agricultural land and invest in crucial projects etc etc , you are not able to vote ..

But they can buy those lands in the other country!!!

Not surprising knowing how an average indian woman looks, you're bound to look else where

and the vice versa ;)

But they can buy those lands in the other country!!!

no you can buy agricultural land only there where you are citizen. There could be business set up proposal and deals but thats investment and other sort of things.

Actually, it's a bit more serious than the ability to buy agricultural land etc. What Canada is saying is that they will strip the person of his Canadian citizenship & kick him/her out of the country. Normal protection to Canadian citizens against such actions will not apply to those holding dual citizenships.

A sad day for Canadians. Its the sign of growing intolerance even in earlier enlightened nation like Canada.

All emigrants to Canada will now be second class citizens. :disagree:

Let's examine the veracity of that claim:

- Bill 24-C in fact has been law since 2014, but the provision for a two-tier citizenship system came into effect just recently.

- The "Pakistani man accused of plotting etc" was not a citizen or dual citizen of Canada. He was a permanent resident, so the citizenship law does not apply to him.

- The news reported by the OP explicitly states that "The C-24 Bill could also easily be used against non-terrorists — for example a journalist who is convicted of a “terrorism offence” in another country for reporting on human rights violations by the government". In other words, this had nothing to do with "what Pakistanis doing their routine", but is intended to give the authorities broad sweeping powers to strip citizenship from individuals.

In conclusion, then, congratulations. The only thing that you have proved is that as an Indian, and much like the rest of your countrymen who waste their lives here, you are genetically hard-wired to malign Pakistan and twist anything and everything in order to score petty points against Pakistan on PDF.
