Driving in India !!

Yes its probably the weirdest driving experience to drive or sit in a car in India. When I went to India our taxi driver started to speed down the wrong side of the road against on coming traffic. And just in the right time, he rammed onto the footpath to avoid them.

I also saw a car flip over near Connaught Place and it was funny seeing a car upside down with al the people in it. I mean its not really funny but no one cared about them and everyone just went about their business.

no no..taxi drivers wont do that...any city in India where taxis ply have very strict rules regarding them and what you are saying will cancel their cab licence so the taxi drivers dont do this.....it might be a private hired car that you are talking about....BTW you should have slapped the driver on his face for this..:lol:

in hyderabad city, you shift from first to second, acceleater a little, shift to 3rd, someone jumps in front of you, switch to second again, and you swear (ma*******). so on an avg 20-40 in normal roads and between 40-70 in open roads.

PS: its india. so kmph and not mph. :lol:

:cheers::yahoo:

B]Mopeds: The moped looks like an oil tin on wheels and makes noise like an electric shaver. It runs 30 miles on a teaspoon of petrol and travels at break-bottom speed [/B]:rofl::rofl:

You know what they say about Mopeds and Fat Chicks right?....:rofl:

My wife refused to cross the street and actually made us hire an "auto". The driver thought it was funny. The $2 was well worth it!!

Although I have been driving since the last 10 years, I must say I learnt right driving habits only after coming to WI.

it is a sad thing. in India, the drivers have to really drive with skills- yet face accidents. I assume the same with Bangladesh and SriLanka too.

unlike in developed world where traffic rules and signal system helps manage driving. for eg: If I've to commute 40kms through a busy highway, the average speed will be less than 70kmph in states like Kerala. The Risky dangerous way of driving comes to play here. it may cost lives :(

rash driving is not defensive driving. yet, people are accustomed to be defensive right,left and back when you drive a car for eg in cities.

This Pic speaks a Lot about Indian driving habits. even sane driving fella will turn risky,rash to save from these kinds.

Don't know about Lanka but you are right about BD. I never drive in Bd and won't because will die instant. These guys drive like maniac, they drive so peculiar ways that it seem like they almost hit the other car yet don't.

Rickshaw driver from Pune reaches the gate of Heaven at the same time as Pune's most eminent Brahmin priest. The priest is made to wait till the driver walks through the gate in pomp and a shower of flowers. The Brahmin gets angry demanding to know why the ric driver got preference.
God says that the driver has made more people pray to God than the priest ever did:-)

After causing so many fatalities, the Government of India is now considering parading these buses during the Republic Day parade along with the other weapons of mass destruction!!
