DRDO’s Protein Food for Jawans

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has made a research in production of protein food for the jawans posted in remote and isolated parts of the country keeping in view the present situation on our borders. DRDO has also developed various nutritious and protein-rich foods to cater the requirements of Service personnel deployed at high altitude and snow bound areas. The major protein food products developed by DRDO are : Protein-rich bars; Energy-rich bars; Protein-rich instant Halwa-mix, Upma-mix; and Protein-rich Chapattis.

There is no food production unit in DRDO. However, after developing these products, production technologies have been transferred to various industries for bulk production.

Development of nutritional food by DRDO for Armed Forces is an ongoing process based on their requirements and latest technological research in the area. Some of them are Processed Food Technologies/Products and Test Kits (Frozen Meat Test and Alfatoxin Detection Kits), etc.

This information was given by Minister of State for Defence Dr. Subhash Bhamre in a written reply to Shri P Bhattacharya and Smt Rajani Patil in Rajya Sabha today.

These food technologies should be made available to all our government schools kid. This must be distributed by Indian Army wing. Like we can employ 1000s of our retired service men in this scheme. For healthier nations.This should on bases of digital cards each school kids so these subsidiary proteins don't go waste in loot by local politicians and officials.

Just my thoughts. DRDO should also invest highly in supplements technology for athletes as well.

Please can anyone close to BJP propose this idea. Modi will get more votes, kids become more healthier, Jobs for Ex Service men and widows.

Good development and there are many things DRDO Developed that are well recognized for example "Lukoskin" drug for one type of skin disease. I don't know why they didn't concentrate in defense product like they do in other things.

DRDO will sell the ToT to private Indian companies to manufacture the equipment which would further can be sold to Indian and friendly countries.

Protein-Rich Foods for Soldiers

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) developed various nutritious and protein-rich foods to cater the requirements of Service personnel deployed at high altitude and snow bound areas. The major food products developed by DRDO during last three years and the current year are: Chicken biscuits; Protein rich mutton bar; Composite cereals bars; Egg protein biscuits; Iron and protein rich food bar; Whey Protein based chocolate; Chicken Katti Rolls; Anti-fatigue Tulsi Bar.

There is no food production unit in DRDO. However, after developing these products, production technologies have been transferred to various industries for bulk production.

Supplement market is growing very rapidly in india and most of the protein supplements in local shops are fake... DRDO should start selling supplement products to all Indians via defence canteens and they can make large sum of money to pump into other projects.

Muscleblaze is Indian brand protein with various other products like Ginseng, creatine, amino acids, multivitamin etc. It has huge sales and products are effective. IA can source same protein bars from them and they cost much less than international brands.

The Border Security Force (BSF) has commissioned an assessment by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratory of the quality of meals served to its jawans and officers.

The decision comes a year after a jawan posted a video on a social media site, alleging that watery dal and burnt chappatis were being served to the personnel.

Director-General, BSF, K.K. Sharma said the study was commissioned on the recommendation of a parliamentary committee that considered the issue recently.


“We are getting a study done by a DRDO laboratory into the quality of the food being served in the BSF messes. While the final report is awaited, what we have been made to understand is that the quality and quantity of food ... have been found to be more than satisfactory...,” he said.

Food being prepared for distribution in flood-affected Kerala and Kodagu, at the Central Food Technological Research Institute in Mysuru on Saturday.


CFTRI too will dispatch ready-to-eat items to Kerala and Kodagu

Even as the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) prepares to despatch its first consignment of 10,000 meals to rain-ravaged Kerala and Kodagu on Sunday, the Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) is planning to airdrop its ready-to-eat food packets in Wayanad of Kerala.

DFRL, which already dispatched its first consignment of three tonnes of food items on Friday evening, was in the process of sending its second consignment by an IAF aircraft from Mysuru airport on Saturday.

The aircraft, which was scheduled to arrive at Mysuru airport from Yelahanka airbase, was expected to pick up DFRL’s dal rice, upma and sooji halwa. “We are planning to airdrop the food packets over the worst-affected regions in Wayanad,” said a source in DFRL.

Meanwhile, CFTRI was also in the midst of preparing ready-to-eat food items, including upma, imli poha, and chapathis, which will be served with pickles and jam.

While 5,000 meals will be dispatched to Kodagu by trucks, the other 5,000 meals will be sent to Kerala either by road or flight. “We are in touch with the officials in the flood-hit region and working out the logistics for transportation and distribution,” said a source in CFTRI.

CFTRI will continue to send food items for the next two days before awaiting a feedback.

DRDO has an established military food research lab for decades. Maybe you were not familiar but that is exactly from where our military gets its specialised foods from, especially for the soldiers on the frontline.
