DRDO's Astra Missile at Aero India 2013: Impressive Capability Claimed

That will surely create confusion that who actually take the enemy fighter.

Being an active seeking missile, the enemy RWR (Radar Warning Receiver) can detect the incoming missile in the terminal phase of the missile, giving it a reaction time of 10-12 seconds.

You are talking about the reporter , right ........:D

You never know. ;)

Mate, consider this scenario of partnership betwen LCA and su-30mki.LCA has low RCS(.3msq) when it does not carries weapons.
LCA can go close enough to enemy fighter without being detected. Now LCA has locked on hostile fighter, since LCA is not carrying any missile it will transfer date to su-30 and SU-30 will launch missile without being getting detected on enemy radar.

just think reverse, mki got massive radar so it can stay away and acquire target data, lca can close in (passive) as much as possible them launch the missile, so the missile does not burn out of fuel quickly and it alerts the enemy very late.

But MKI also has huge RCS when compared to western fighter.

No one actually knows the real RCS of MKI, all the comparisons has been drawn from the RCS of Su-27. Keeping in mind MKI uses extensive surface composites, while Su-27 is mostly aluminium.

While the Su-35 has a clean RCS of around 1 Sq m, having same composite structure but without canards.

yes I know, but it still can stay away and act as a command post, mini awac etc. enemy even if detects will concentrate on mki, not the tiny lca, so it can close in passive and fire the missile.

lca has small radar and also if mki has to close in with weapons, enemy will be alerted early.

I remember reading a thread in pdf, quoting a russian scientist talking in seminar about extensive ram coating and composites being used in one of the flanker exports in 90's.RAM was used in airframe , air intake and even in engine blades and RCS was reduced considerably.

Astra and R-77 looks same.

why we need other when we already have our own stealth tech, by which we can reduce rcs upto 80% while increase in weight only 50kg.

Which tech are you talking about ??

This was the case in the 90s .

An efficient RAM can reduce the reflected waves by more than 95%.

Interesting fact being.. that like all Modern Air forces.. the IAF is now edging more towards the concept of slash and dash fights rather than maneuverability.

It was the need of the hour. Historically we lagged behind when it came to our airforce, its only in the last decade or so that the IAF has been pushing modernization. In the 90s the PAF had a leg up on the IAF when it came to BVR combat, earlier than that it had offset its numerical disadvantage by using modern American fighters over the IAF. The MKI won over the IAF specifically because of its beastly BARS radar, BVR combat and bugging out after taking the first shot have become the norm. We still retain close combat skills though, the cream of the IAF still swears by thrust vectoring and HMDS and helmet mounted targeting systems for high off-boresight shots- even the LCA with its underpowered engine program integrated the HMDS early on for an advantage in WVR combat (the result shows in the MKI and the FGFA).
