DRDO, York Varsity Sign Research Cooperation Pact.
India's premier Defence research agency and Canada's York University have signed an agreement under which the two institutions will jointly pursue collaborative Defence research in areas of advanced material, nanotechnology, chemical and biological Defence, and sensors
.The memorandum of understanding (MOU) in this regard was signed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Director General Dr VK Saraswat and York University Vice President (Research and Innovation) Dr Robert Hache here.
The occasion was the bilateral summit level meeting between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper here on November 6, top DRDO officials said here.
The signing of MOU marks an important milestone between the countries
. York University is one of the research centres of Defence research and development in Canada (DRDC) of the Canadian Department of National Defence.University specialises in developing technologies for chem-bio Defence, counter terrorism, soldier as a system and likewise other Defence applications.
"The MOU will facilitate DRDO and the York University to pursue collaborative Defence research in areas of advanced materials, nanotechnology, life sciences, bio-informatics, chemical and biological Defence, sensors, and others," officials said.
Both sides have planned a number of joint projects in the time to come, they added.
Meanwhile, Saraswat, who is also the scientific advisor to the Indian Defence minister apart from being secretary of department of Defence research, has been conferred the honorable degree of doctor of science (D.Sc.) by the Jiwaji University at Gwalior during its annual convocation programme on November 9.
The degree was awarded by Madhya Pradesh Governor and University Chancellor Ram Naresh Yadav.
Hailing the contribution in the field of development of Defence technologies and for strengthening national security, Saraswat was presented a commendation certificate by Jiwaji University Vice Chancellor Prof M Kidwai on the occasion.
