The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Sunday said that the agency has set its sight to make India self-sufficient in producing defence equipment ranging from missiles, manned and unmanned aircrafts to sensors among others.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Sunday said that the agency has set its sight to make India self-sufficient in producing defence equipment ranging from missiles, manned and unmanned aircrafts to sensors among others.

"The DRDO had been depending on the indigenisation of the weapon system. We have now taken on five new missions to make sure that we have cutting-edge capabilities," Director General Dr Avinash Chander told ANI.

"We are making ourselves totally self-reliant in making our own missiles; manned and unmanned aircrafts to dominate the skies; go into modernising the army with better mobility. We are also looking at providing state of the art sensors, communication radars and sonar," he added.

Dr Chander also said that the agency has taken major strides in ensuring that weapons are delivered to the armed forces on time to meet their immediate requirements.

"The DRDO is the prime organisation for designing indigenous defence systems. In that context, we have a major role to indigenise the systems and develop our own technologies. We have taken major initiatives to make sure that we deliver the immediate weapons on time and giving the cutting edge capabilities," he said

. .
off course it is.

Who can doubt its intentions.

We only doubt and hence laugh about its tortoise-ish speed of getting things done.

not the intentions.
This tortoise organisation have world class milestone in its claws than snail pace of many Pakistani defense firms combined.

DRDO is never going to be effective & reliable unless they face competition from other players. Only way to make DRDO effective & consistent is by bringing in private players & give them stiff competition. At the moment.. they are just enjoying the monopoly.. & the fact that India is not spoiled for choice, makes them that much lethargic & take things for granted!

.
When we see foreign consultants in every major project of DRDO, subject statement is highly doubtful.

. .
really?

which country or countries these foreign consultants belong to?

Dude you are a TT and asking such a basic question... do some internet search and help your self. use key words France, Israel, Russia, GE etc.

DRDO is falling on hard days. The fat will melt and make tears too.

If he or other DRDO officials would spend a fraction of the time they spend with the media, making such nonsense claims, in actual R&D our aviation projects might not be that delayed.

Honestly, I think DRDO has made some significatn steps in the right direction within the past 5 yrs or so. Seeing how Modi and the DM Parikar have issues with DRDO, new reforms will certainly aid in making it better. But what irks me is what happend for the 30 plus yrs or so?

I don't want that swept under the rug. i want answers. I want accountability. Otherwise, those issues will crop up again once Modi leaves office. A massive correction is not only about reforms.
