I agree. My country needs to decide if it is interested in having allies from the Muslim world or not. There is virtually no chance, (or at least very little.), that these aircraft would be used against India but there is a 100% chance that they will be used in precision strikes against the enemies of Pakistan, as well as those of Afghanistan, & America.

Do you believe Mc Cain has the same clout he had a few years ago, with the whole Trump fiasco. It is clear that the American people are not as accepting as it is claimed, with a nominee being selected whose views on Mexico, the Muslim world, and women, well just about everything is radical. If he was say, a prominent spokesperson for a Muslim country, we would be seeing the American people being told how evil and backwards the people are for putting such a man in power or attempting to.
Anyone who can label nations or religions so easily and not only can he get away with it but be loved by millions shows us that the America that believed in freedom and was an open minded country is nothing more then a story book tale now.
I think that the time for token gestures is over, and the general feeling amongst educated people here is that America is not the best of allies, and has caused more harm then good in the region.
Just to give an example, I wonder when American press will ask its leaders that they would not accept 10000 Syrian refugees because of fear of terrorists amongst them, but has saddled us with millions and complains when we can not control them, complains when we want to send them back, and uses all its influence to back us in corners which only will end up with us totally turning our backs to America the day we can.
I am not saying that is possible in the near future, it may never really be possible, but what policies have done is totally shifted the orthodox mindset amongst many into a more anti American one, not because of any religious issues, or hate for the people, but policies which have totally gone against most American values.
It is not acceptable to have two set of rules, applicable on whims, while expecting others to follow rules which are set in stone.
I am sorry, I seem to have digressed, but the point remains, America needs to figure out whether we are an ally or not, and act accordingly. Lobbies which toss around policies, serials which show us as terrorists living in slums, and news articles which can not draw parallels with examples from the western world in general and America in particular regarding policies, has left us expecting nothing near friendship from your side.
I wonder how the American people would react if we show a serial with American soldiers operating a drone popping open bottles of champagne when they kill children... seems as disgusting to you as the serials which show us as people living in slums carrying AK 47s burning American flags day and night enslaving our women and acting like animals in general....

Well, be we you do not mean your country's air force, the government of Pakistan as well as a number of other non-governmental organizations. It is the Pakistan Air Force that requested the F-16 deal, not the USA. It is the government of Pakistan that wants that deal, not most American government officials, apparently. That is why I suggest that you should address them and not us with your concerns. America must deal with the government in power in Islamabad.

There is only ONE you , and too many of us on this forum.

For what it's worth, I did send my position to my state's congressional delegation. (I am a Republican Party official and do this often on topics that interest me.)

LOL! According to Pakistan's own admission, the enemies of US and Afghanistan are not necessary the enemies of Pakistan. Instead, Pakistanis consider them strategic assets in the great game, biding their time for US withdrawal!

I think you need to sit with your congressman to figure that aspect out first.

Personally, I don't think there should be one. I think it perfectly reasonable to say that the F-16's would be sold based on their 100% likely use against terrorists but should war break out between Pakistan and India, we certainly have no right to tell Pakistan that they can't use weapons in their arsenal that we sold them. That would be idiotic. What has changed though is that while Pakistan's stock has declined in American politicians eyes, (particularly as I mentioned earlier, since the operation against Osama bin-Laden in Pakistan.), India's has increased and India has developed a very effective lobby in the American congress that is starting to rival Israel's. That is why the use of any military hardware against India has a negative effect on our congress.

ISLAMABAD: Negotiations regarding the funding of F-16 jets for Pakistan may still be possible with the United States (US), Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said on Thursday.

"US Senator John McCain will be visiting Pakistan soon to meet top leadership," Zakaria said.

The F-16 deal was earlier put on hold after Washington asked Islamabad to foot the bill for the jets. Under an initial financing arrangement, the US was to pay about $430 million for the eight jets worth $699 million from Foreign Military Financing (FMF) funds, while the remaining cost was to be borne by Pakistan itself.

Islamabad rejected the idea of fully paying for the aircraft and refused to make any pledge unless the restriction on financing through FMF was lifted.

The Pakistani government was required to provide the Letter of Acceptance for purchase of the jets by May 24, but a diplomatic source revealed that the document was not issued, leading to expiry of the offer.

'Pakistan to join MTCR at appropriate time'
The FO spokesman said Pakistan would choose to become a part of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) at an ‘appropriate’ time.

Pakistan has a fairly advanced missile programme and has developed a number of short- and medium-range ballistic missiles and UAVs, but it has never sought membership of the MTCR, which theoretically could have facilitated its access to high-end missile technologies.

India, however, became the 35th member of the MTCR this week after a consensus emerged in the regime on admitting it into its fold.

'Asked for more evidence on Mumbai attacks'
Zakaria said that Pakistan has asked Indian authorities for more evidence regarding the Mumbai attacks so that Pakistan can pursue the case.

"Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry has written a letter to concerned authorities across the border and has demanded further details regarding the evidence linking Pakistan to the attacks," he said.

Foreign policy to be sorted out during envoys conference
Pakistan envoys have been called together for a meeting next month to discuss the rapidly changing scenario of international politics, the FO spokesman said.

The conference will also be used to devise a fitter strategy to deal with the future developments.

The development comes amidst criticism of the government's foreign policy by members of the opposition who claim that Pakistan is becoming isolated and needs to maintain good relations with neighbouring countries.
