Don't compare to World War II
Re: Jack Henry's Ozarks Voices on Aug. 17
Don't compare the war in Iraq to WWII. Especially not in the death toll. The insurgency in Iraq is a drop in the ocean compared to the Nazi war machine. They do not possess aircraft, tanks, artillery, etc.; this war is not being fought in numerous states on multiple continents.
Secondly, the Iraq war, just like Vietnam, was started under lies and falsehoods. Once those lies came to light, soldiers as well as protesters began to question the real reason we were in Vietnam, just like what is happening now.
May I also remind you that we tried to stay out of WWII until the attack on Pearl Harbor. After Sept. 11, nobody questioned going after the real perpetrators of that act. Yet that man and his organization continue to wreak havoc across the world while we try to contain a civil war that we ultimately set off. Protesters are against war not because we hate America, but because we love our brothers and sisters.
If our lives and freedoms were truly in jeopardy from an intimidating force comparable to the Third Reich, no one in America would question our reasons for fighting.
