Don't be 'under confident' with respect to China: IAF chief

New Delhi: Indian Air Force (IAF) Air Chief Marshal P V Naik on Friday downplayed China's sale of fighter jets to Pakistan and said there was no need to be "under confident" with respect to China.

"When two sovereign countries (in this case China and Pakistan) interact there is no scope for a third country. It is up to them (China) to sell it. Why are you so under confident? Our country is strong enough," said Naik.

China has signed a contract with Pakistan to sell at least 36 advanced J-10 fighter jets in a deal worth $1.4 billion. The J-10 is a multi-role fighter configured for air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.

Aviation experts say the design is based on the cancelled Israeli Lavi lightweight fighter and that Israel provided the technology for the fighter's fly by wire controls. It is powered by a Russian engine. The J-10 entered service with the Chinese Air Force in 2003.

"Our army, navy and air force will look after the interests of the country. You (media) do not worry about it and do not make others worry about it," Naik said.

"Our army, navy and air force will look after the interests of the country. You (media) do not worry about it and do not make others worry about it"

Appropriate response to hysteria brewing media.

Perhaps best reply to media, in last few months we have seen...

One has to agree that the Indian media has been beating war drums for months now so as to attract more and more viewership.

The government of India must place curbs on the freedom enjoyed by these media outlets. Fact remains that media organizations are only concerned about their own interests, rather than national interests. Else they wouldn't have upped the anti-China rhetoric which can have potentially disastrous consequences.

Hoping for more prosperous ties between India and China.

thats i feel always indian media is free more then they need freedom.i don't wanna control them like china bt there should be some limits of freedom.

All medias has the aim of getting attention with sensational news, so this is nothing unusual. It is good to have eyes on the politicans, or military and media who are free to report about it otherwise the normal people wouldn't realize what really happens.
But you always have to question the reports, because most of the media today are not free anymore. Look at the US media for example, that only shows what the president, or the military allows the people to see. Embedded war reporters, no pics of dead us soldiers in Iraq, or Afghanistan, no pics of returning bodies of soldiers (I think now changed under president Obama).

I disagree because apart from usual bull **** that media come up with a free and fair media is the most important function of a democracy...it is even more lethal than opposition for a government..Make one mistake and they will eat you raw...

There should not be any curb on freedom however just to keep them honest statements like Mr Naik will do a lot of good...

yes, this is how media should be!
but then what do you do, when media starts coming up with "Special Programs" which create false chaos among its viewers?
Example
"Kya Aliens गाय (cow) ka doodh piti hain?"

"2012 main hoga dharti ka vinash?"

what to do when your media starts entertaining people?

can one really trust media? I would like to cross check the reports they carry before believing it.

Do you know, business news channels have become an platform to create an rally on particular Scrip?
I've seen scrip that have no strong graph are recommended "BUY" for viewers

Great example...Do you buy those news..that's where one needs to use his/her brain... Anyways these stories sell because people want to see them...you can easily switch off the channel or move on to some meaningful news channel...People have different level of intellects and what sounds truth to you might sound crap to me and vice-versa...So yes you got to take news on its merit.... Also if you look around you will see a free media is far more credible than state owned media...

Buddy there are always pros and cons for anything and everything...I will choose to switch off my TV when news channel talk about BS like above than to curb their freedom...because when your media is free you can be rest assured all those tehelka's will keep doing the clean up job...Also a recent example...it is courtesy of the same media because of which Manu Sharma is back after violating his parole and has put people in tight spot for explaining the logic behind his parole...this is just one tiny example from the plethora of examples that show how important is to have a free media...

one more thing there is no such thing like limited freedom...either you are free or you are not...

Very true. Besides, Pakistani media is immature too, but if we compare Pakistani and Indian media, the significant immaturity is more prominent in regards with Indian media. I'm talking particularly about 'warmongering' demonstrations.

You need to Embed it I think. If you want to share youtube link, on the right side of youtube video, copy the 'Embed' link and paste here. See if it works, though I've never tried it
