President Donald Trump has said the United States has "foolishly" handed Pakistan more than $US33 billion in aid over the last 15 years while getting nothing in return, and pledged to put a stop to it.

Key points:
  • The US accuses Pakistan of harbouring terrorists
  • Donald Trump's first tweet of 2018 says Pakistan gives nothing in return for US aid
  • The administration delayed $US255 million in aid to Pakistan in August
"They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!" Mr Trump wrote on Twitter.

"They have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools."

The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!

The New York Times reported on December 29 that the Trump administration was "strongly considering" whether to withhold $US255 million in aid to Pakistan.

It said US officials had sought but been denied access to a member of the Taliban-linked Haqqani network captured in Pakistan who potentially could provide information about at least one American hostage.

Pakistan's foreign minister, Khawaja M Asif, wrote on Twitter: "We will respond to President Trump's tweet shortly inshallah … will let the world know the truth … difference between facts & fiction."

The Trump administration said in August that it was delaying sending the $US255 million in aid to Pakistan.

Last month, Mr Trump said in a speech the US Government makes "massive payments every year to Pakistan. They have to help".

Pakistan counters that it has launched military operations to push out militants from its soil and that 17,000 Pakistanis have died fighting militants or in bombings and other attacks since 2001.

The US official aid body, USAID, had said on its website: "Pakistan remains one of America's largest recipients of foreign assistance, a sign of our long-term partnership and commitment."

Relations with Pakistan 'did not improve'
Michael Kugelman, senior associate for South Asia at the Woodrow Wilson Centre, cautioned that people should not "overstate the significance of Trump's tweet for policy".

Mr Trump in October tweeted that US relations with Pakistan were improving, but Mr Kugelman said "they most certainly did not improve".

"Still, this is an administration that has repeatedly vowed to take a harder line and has strongly considered an aid cut. So was Trump's tweet meant to preview a coming shift in policy? I'd certainly bet on the possibility," Mr Kugelman said.

The top US general in Afghanistan, John Nicholson, said in November that he had not seen a change in Pakistan's behaviour toward militants, despite the Trump administration's tougher line against Islamabad.

In a speech last month in Afghanistan to US troops, Vice-President Mike Pence said "for too long Pakistan has provided safe haven to the Taliban and many terrorist organisations, but those days are over. President Trump has put Pakistan on notice".

Hamdullah Mohib, Afghanistan's ambassador in Washington, said in a Twitter post on Monday that Mr Trump's tweet was a "promising message to Afghans who have suffered at the hands of terrorists based in Pakistan for far too long".

The Pakistan embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The White House did not respond to requests on what prompted Mr Trump's tweet and whether a decision had been made on the aid.

i have to agree with Trump here, until *proven* differently by the Pakistani government.

but ehm, if the US says not enough is being done for 33US Billion in 15 years, then not enough is being done, dear Pakistani leaderships (political, intel, moderate religious).

you *have* to start policing your tribal areas, Pakistanis.
especially the Madrassahs (Islamic schools) there.
and *with* the help of US special forces and drones, much like was done in Iraq post-Saddam.

our areas are already cleared and secured its the US who has failed miserably in Afghanistan and trying to use Pakistan as a scapegoat just like they blame Cambodia for the humiliation they faced in Vietnam
their 33B are peanut compared to what we lost in their war lets have a deal you stop giving us Aid and we will pull out from this so called WOT No more route for supplies no more intelligence and no more support to US forces in afghanistan

if the US says not enough is being done for 33US Billion in 15 years, then not enough is being done,
and WMD were found in Iraq how ignorant can you be?

that's a blackmail attempt, and the white man don't respond well to such attempts.

Yeah, no WMD were found in Iraq. Except for Saddam's stockpiles of chemical weapons which he was no doubt building up again.

Same with your Pakistani Taliban. They are revitalized by the government in the supposedly moderate cities of Pakistan.
You even seem to allow putting up with the occasional terror strike by your dear Taliban in your own cities, as happened last December even. You put up with their ambitions to one day rule all of Pakistan (at which point you'll be begging for Western help, i assure you that even if you really don't want to admit it today or this week).

It's for your own good, Pakistanis. STOP SEEING THE TALIBAN as tribes to be protected or as "military assets".
They are neither, until they grow up and realize that (a) they need to stay in their own areas, and (b) they need to accept the fact that women who don't like it there get to live in a moderate city in Pakistan, and (c) they no longer have any ambitions at all to force their way of life onto others (like you Pakistanis living in or near a moderate city of Pakistan).

.
STOP SEEING THE TALIBAN as tribes

Are you mental??

Thats all we have on our western borders, the USA wants us to randomly attack villages full of tribals without evidence just to create chaos

10 years ago the yanks had over 100,000 soldiers, billions commited and a comprehensive strategy
We went in strong and it was chaos

It took us years to work out that the counter terrorism strategy has to be a long term effort centered on changing the base reality if the people and targeting identifiable bad guys,

We have reduced terrorism in our country and things getting back to normal with major plans and projects underway

Today the American plan is point blank stupid, less of everything and no strategy and they want us to put our people at risk and follow those idiots in a plsn more moronic then last time?

.

because white men are hypocrites and liar they cant fave truth those savages are just good at killing each other as you guys have done in 2 great wars

watch the Video again
"The general said we are going to attack Iraq when I(General Wesley Clark) asked why he said I dont know
they attacked and destroyed Iraq without giving any Valid reason and lied to the entire world

.
ok. you Pakistanis have listed good points.

i'll see what i can do on my end to reduce American rethoric and keep the funds flowing to Pakistan without many preconditions.

give me about 2 to 4 weeks to see if it's possible to see these changes end up in western massmedia headlines.

How is Drones and foreign special forces help in policing anything? US-led reconstruction and reforms in post-Saddam Iraq went well I guess

drones assist the special forces
special forces take on the tough jobs
and trainers train the local forces to take over those tough jobs under the continued assistance of the drones.

the drones form the cavalry that isn't late.

that's the anti-ISIS strategy in Iraq, which liberated Iraq's young new Islamic-Democratic government and the Iraqi people they protect, from the severe hardship ISIS extremists were making.

however.. Pakistan is not Iraq. Afghanistan is not Pakistan.
that's what we're not yet used to over here in the West.

we need to take this into account as well.
we must learn from our mistakes, and

It took us years to work out that the counter terrorism strategy has to be a long term effort centered on changing the base reality of the people and targeting identifiable bad guys,

might be just the way *to* do that.

Abdul Rasul Sayyaf, a Saudi sponsored Wahhabi Warlord in Afghanistan, also known as 'the man of the mountain', due to his James Bond like mountain fortress.

Sayyaf has the Filipino Salafi group Abu Sayyaf named after him
Sayyaf trained the 1993 WTC bomber Ramzi Youssef
Sayyaf was the first to invite al Qaeda & bin Laden to Afghanistan
Sayyaf mentored WTC 'mastermind' Khalid Sheikh Mohammed
Sayyaf sent the assassins to murder Ahmed Shah Massoud 2-days before 9/11
Sayyaf framed the Taliban for 9/11 & the US wrath when really it was him who helped plan and execute the planes operation!

Abdul Rasul Sayyaf is a very bad man

I see that horse face Nicholson is socializing with his Afghan pal.

How is this possible despite your revelations? Why would an American general be standing next to such a hideous man?
